lately i am feeling really down, like i cant handle any thing that is going on in my life. I have stoped hanging out with friends and family. I just dont want to do any thing any more. I was not like that all the time, a month ago i was great.

I am sorry to hear that your friend or so called friend hurt you. Did it happen a month ago? I have been hurt also. It's been almost two years and it it hard to lose a friend. But, maybe, they weren't friends?


Well! You forgot to mention your dog just drown. Of course, you will be depressed. YOU NEED TIME.

Depression can come for so many reasons: poor physical health, life events, a chemical imbalance, hormonal fluctuations, poor diet, lack of exercise... take good care of you and try to keep yourself from being isolated. Do what you know you should do to stay healthy physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually in spite of the feelings that tell you to shut out the world. Confide in someone you can trust, and/or find a counselor to help.

Being a psychology major and already a respiratory therapist, I would say your symptoms greatly resemble those of depression.

Clinical depression is a state of sadness, melancholia or despair that has advanced to the point of being disruptive to an individual's social functioning and/or activities of daily living. Although a low mood or state of dejection that does not affect functioning is often referred to as depression, clinical depression is a medical diagnosis and is different from the everyday meaning of "being depressed"

According to the DSM-IV-TR criteria for diagnosing a major depressive disorder (cautionary statement) one of the following two elements must be present for a period of at least two weeks:

Depressed mood, or
Anhedonia
It is sufficient to have either of these symptoms in conjunction with five of a list of other symptoms over a two-week period. These include:

Feelings of overwhelming sadness or fear or the seeming inability to feel emotion (emptiness).
A decrease in the amount of interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities of the day, nearly every day.
Changing appetite and marked weight gain or loss.
Disturbed sleep patterns, such as insomnia, loss of REM sleep, or excessive sleep (Hypersomnia).
Psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day.
Fatigue, mental or physical, also loss of energy.
Intense feelings of guilt, helplessness, hopelessness, worthlessness, isolation/lonliness, anxiety, and/or fear.
Trouble concentrating or making decisions or a generalized slowing and obtunding of cognition, including memory.
Recurrent thoughts of death (not just fear of dying), recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide.
Feeling of being abandoned by those close to you.
Other symptoms reported but not usually taken into account in diagnosis include:

A decrease in self-esteem.
Inattention to personal hygiene.
Sensitivity to noise.
Physical aches and pains, and the belief these may be signs of serious illness.
Fear of 'going mad'.
Change in perception of time.
Periods of sobbing.
Possible behavioral changes, such as aggression and/or irritability.
Depression in children is not as obvious as it is in adults. Here are some symptoms that children might display:

Loss of appetite.
Irritability.
Sleep problems, such as recurrent nightmares.
Learning or memory problems where none existed before.
Significant behavioral changes; such as withdrawal, social isolation, and aggression.

While I can't diagnose what is going on with you, I can advise you to see a counselor or a psychologist, or even start with your regular primary physician and see what they recommend you do.

It happens.We all have moments like this and i really find physical activities,like sports,walking(includes window shopping),re arranging your home and even sex if(if it isn't new 4U!)will give you immense satisfaction.Sweat that sadness out,Dear.

Have you gone on the needle or anything to adjust your hormones ? when i got the needle it was like i was going mad
