I am the same way. i think the key to keeping people like us organized and neat is to have EASY accessibility to things we need and an EASY way to put them back. Like Don't bother making a nice box of stuff in the back of the closet, under something else - because when you need it you are going to make a mess and then you will never put it back. So all that work of organizing will only stay good for 2 weeks.

Get a stacking bin form target, or go to Organizes-it.com for some stuff to help you.

Hey and ya know what? if you know someone -friend or family that is very organized - don't be shy - ask them for help - my cousin showed me all her bathroom cabinets and bedroom closets and it really inspired me!

GOOD LUCK

A place for everything, everything in it's place...
Everything in your home or office should have a home--a consistent and appropriate place where that object is normally kept. Some items that you use every day, may be on display and/or readily available for frequent use. Other items, like holiday decorations or out of season clothing, can be stored in an out-of-the-way area until needed.
When an object strays from its 'home,' it can easily be misplaced, thus causing stress and frustration. Clutter build-up naturally occurs when items are not kept and/or returned to their homes.
When you have something that you never use, giving it to someone who will make use of it can really brighten your day. Give it to a friend. Pass it on to a relative. Or put it in a special 'Charity Box' and make a donation to a favorite organization once per month.
Need a few extra bucks? Consider selling those things you don't use. Hold a rummage sale. Sell them to a consignment shop. Or, try an online auction company, such as E-Bay.
Items that are outdated, faded, broken or otherwise unusable can often be dumped. If you don't want it, and you don't know anyone else who wants it, dump it today. You'll be freeing your space--and your mind!

First of all, please remember getting organized takes time. That's your best tool to start with.
Don't overwhelm yourself. Keeping organizing simple is the best way to go. Whatever works for you, may not necessarily work for someone else.
While starting the process causes more mess....the end result will be well worth your time spent. Actually giving you back so much more time, in return.
Did you know, the average person loses one hour a day searching for lost or misplaced items? Imagine giving yourself an extra hour every single day!
As far as closets go. Try grouping like items together. Shoes, by color. Shirts, by color, etc. This process will help you see everything you have. Often times, giving you the opportunity to get more use out of your wordrobe, as well as identifying unused items. Will you really fix that button on a shirt which has sat there unattended all this time?
Both your's and your children's rooms boil down to the same thing...if you don't love it or use it, toss it or give it to your favorite charity. Keep a container in your closet for 'donating' items. You may surprise yourself at how fast it will be filled. Get the kids involved. Talk with them about other children who are less fortunate & the rewards of being charitable. My grandchildren really 'grasped' this concept.
The market is filled with organizing tools. When you're out shopping, go to the organizing section. Not necessarily to buy, but for ideas.
Kid's rooms have come a LONG way as far as organizational systems go. There are numerous bin type items which are colorful & add to the decor of their rooms. While being enormously effective at keeping them organized. You may actually see them look forward to keeping more of their items in the designated 'spot'. Give them the opportunity to be involved in the process. Let them decide on the color coding of different items...for instance, all the Legos go in the red container, cars in blue, etc. Or, if using basic storage containers, let them write the label for the container! If they're too young for that idea, cut out a picture of a shirt, socks, etc. & attach to the container - drawer. What an awesome life tool you will be providing them! Go Mom!! Keep 'like' items grouped. All the socks in one drawer, shorts, underwear, etc.
If you're overwhemed right now, try this: set a timer...spend 15 minutes in a room, concentrating on one project. {you'll be surprised how much you can accomplish}.
Remember, all of this organizing will save you money & time, not to mention stress!! You owe it to yourself and your family!

You can transform a bedroom closet design quickly, easily, and inexpensively by installing a modular closet system. There are many competing storage systems and products, so take a look at several systems before deciding.
