mitral valve prolapse can be suspected on examination sometimes characteristic exam findings are virtually diagnostic, confirmation by echocardiogram, you likely do not have it, based on your description, good luck

It is VERY important that your mother take you to the doctor to get this checked out.

Your rapid heart rate is likely caused by one of two things. The first is simply stress and fear, which is obviously not anything to be too concerned about from a medical standpoint.

The second is a cardiac dysrhythmia called SVT that is sometimes associated with mitral valve prolapse. SVT causes your heart to race at very high rates. This condition is treatable, but is very dangerous if left untreated.

THE BOTTOM LINE: ALWAYS CONSULT A PHYSICIAN IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT YOUR HEALTH. DO NOT TAKE MEDICAL ADVICE OVER THE INTERNET!!!

Regardless of your age you should have a thorough physical exam. You may have experienced a panic attack, but it's always best to rule out all the possibilities. Then everyone can sleep better. Given your family history I think this is something you shouldn't put off.
God Bless and I hope things turn out well for you.
