my son is short for his age, he's 7 yrs old and plays football. Even though it's his 2nd yr. they treat him as they do the 1st yr 6 yr olds. I know that proper diet, sleep, and exercise helps kids grow but he wakes up real early, help me please with any advice?!

I just get worried because my husband is the 2nd oldest and he's 5'8 but his older brother is 5'2 and I'm 5' so the gene pool for being short has a pretty good chance. I don't talk about it in front of him. My husband and I talk about it amongst ourselves.

I was short all my life, but I am perfect the way I am. IF I wasnt short then I wouldnt be me. Your son will play just as good being short or tall! He can do anything he puts his mind too!

Don't worry about it. You can't make him tall. Proper nutrition plays a part, but it's mostly genetics. He may always be short. Or at some point he may put on a growth spurt and get tall. Who knows? It's nothing to get bent out of shape over. Just accept the fact that he's smaller than most other kids his age be satisfied with him the way he is.

You think he is too short, but is he? I dont know what country you are in but you should have some medical guide that tells you what 'normal' height (and weight) is for his age. You need his age in years and months. As long as he is at or above the 5th percentile (that is the 5th shortest out of a cross section of 100 kids the same age of similar ethnic group) then I would say he is not to short at all.

Lack of sleep is not going to keep him from reaching his height potential. Some boys are really short until they are in high school and then seem to shoot up over night. A friend of mine was shorter than me Freshman and Sophmore year (I'm 5'3"), and over that summer he grew to almost 6' tall.

Your son is fine, alot of kids are short for a long time and then it feel's like they have grown an inch over night. Please don't talk about this in front of him, you will make him feel like there is something wrong with him which will lead to self esteem issues.

there's nothing to worry. it is a game of genes. try seeing it in someone from ur family.i myself was short till 17. give him some time . wait till he is 14 if u really want to see if there is something wrong with his thyroid and if he needs ashot of teststerone injection.

His height is determined more by genetics than anything else. As long as your son doesn't have any special condition, like Dwarfism, don't worry about his size right now.

Hello,
this is not the answer but something additional to consider.
If his shortness was determined to be hormonal by a doctor, they sometimes can give HGH (Human Growth Hormone) treatments.

Don't worry about it. Guys start growing at 14 and up to 21.

My son was short when he was younger but when he was older he was one of the tallest kids on his class. So don't panic just give it some time.
