I told my boyfriend before we had sex that I have genital herpes and he seems to think that if we just have anal sex that he will not get it. I have done alot of research and I have tryed to tell him that he is not 100% safe just by us doing that. Am I wrong? I believe he can still catch it.

Valtrex, taken once a day helps to prevent the spread of Herpes and the outbreaks duration. BUT! When you have Herpes, it is a virus that is not cureable and may be passed on to another without showing any symptoms. I think it is admirable that you take it up the tail pipe, that's hot, but yes your boyfriend still runs the risk of catching it. Let him know that he can also get oral Herpes from having oral sex with you when you are having an outbreak or shedding a past outbreak. Herpes is nothing to sneeze at.
Let's all pray for the day when Herpes is just another treatable STD.

ALL kinds of sex can spread genital herpes. Vaginal, oral, and anal ALL spread it. So, he can absolutely get genital herpes from you if all you guys ever do is have anal sex. It's still sex!

Also, you can spread it to him whether you are having an outbreak or not! According to Valtrex, 70% of people got genital herpes from a partner who wasn't showing any signs or symptoms of the virus (like sores).

I personally got genital herpes from a guy I had slept with ONE time. He wasn't showing any signs or symptoms of the virus. My fiance (boyfriend at the time) got genital herpes from me about 2 months into our relationship. I hadn't had an outbreak in almost 2 years and he still got the virus from me!

There really is no 100% safe sex. The only thing that is 100% is abstinence. Condoms are very effective against STDs and pregnancy but are NOT 100% effective.

It's good that you take Valtrex too. Valtrex is the only medication for herpes proven to help prevent the spread of it. There are other medication for herpes (I'm on acyclovir), but these don't help prevent the spread of it, only Valtrex does. Taking special precautions when having sex can help prevent him from getting it. Using condoms EVERY time and taking Valtrex definitely helps, but it's not 100% effective. He is ALWAYS going to be at risk to contracting genital herpes from you. The only thing, like I said earlier, that is 100% is abstinence.

Been married for 10 years and I have herpes on my face. I do not have genital herpes but it does not m atter. When I have an outbreak there is no kissing or anything else, lol.

Genital or facial herpes, you must be careful because you can pass it on to your partner regardless of an outbreak.

BTW, my husband is herpes free after 10 years of marriage.

You are right. it is possible to spread it through any sexual contact, whether or not ur having an outbreak or not. Herpes does not protect against transmission of the disease. The only way you can not spread it is to not have sex, but thats unrealistic. Use a condom, wash your hands after any contact, and limit your oral sex since you can pass genital herpes on and it becomes oral herpes (causing cold sores). Valtrex helps reduce the number of outbreaks you get, but doesn't protect u or ur partner from spreading it. Feel free to contact me if you have further questions...

Yes, he can still get it. The herpes virus sheds viral particles in its active state and these particles are all over that area. You can use supressive drugs to make the virus become latent- not infective. Talk to your gynecologist about treatment.

You did the right thing by letting him know. If that's the choice he makes, then that's fine. If he cares much about his health he'll wear a condom.

Girl, hes just trying to hit that a@@ as much as possible. He can get it from there too. Tell him to get a blow up doll, or wait till he gets an outbreak himself, that will teach his trifling a@@ a lesson.
