Thanks everyone for your quick responses. I still am unable to go to the Dr. I am hoping it will go away on it's own. I still am cough and wheezing in the morning but it seems to be getting better. Right now I can barely afford to buy food for my family. If I am still wheezing and cough by next week I am going to see if I can borrow the money to go to the Dr. I have insurance but we can't even afford the co pay. I am trying to quiet right now I am down to 5 cigarettes a day. I don't want to get asthma or some other worse diesease like lung cancer. I am really trying to quiet.

I don't smoke... and I wake up very frequently with wheezing. I ended up in the hospital for four days and was diagnosed with asthma at that time. You need to see a doctor. By postponing my trip to the doctor to find out why I was having chest tightness and wheezing... I ended up with an asthma attack and hypoxia (lack of oxygen)... I spent two days on oxygen and had numerous breathing treatments, etc. I had a CAT scan and chest X-rays done as well.

Asthma is serious stuff, get to a doctor as soon as you can. Good luck!

SMOKER!!! serious bad stuff!!!
you are predisposed to having lung problems because of your asthma as a baby.
Smoking(although I am a smoker too) is not the smartest thing for you to do when you are wheezing thru the night.
people can develop asthma at any age so this is probably bronchitis added to asthma.
get yourself off those smokes
try taking a good cough med at bed time that might help with the wheezes at night elevate the head of your bed. be sure you are getting plenty of water sometimes the symptoms can be worse if you are dehydrated plus if there is gunk in your lungs being dehydrated will just make the gunk thicker and harder to cough out
hope you feel better soon
Try the gum for the smoking it helped me quit once.

I have asthma and I often get bronchitis. They tend to go hand in hand. STOP smoking, it will only worsen any asthma (if you still have it) and bronchitis. Plus its just.... ewww nasty:| I hope this helps.

Just when you thought you were finally over a cold, your chest starts to feel sore and you develop an irritating cough. Later, you might get the chills or a slight fever.

If these signs and symptoms sound familiar, you might have acute bronchitis, a condition that occurs when the inner walls that line the main air passageways of your lungs become infected and inflamed. Bronchitis often follows a respiratory infection such as a cold. And just as most people get occasional colds, virtually everyone has bronchitis at least once.

Most cases of acute bronchitis disappear within a few days without lasting effects, although coughs may linger three weeks or more. But if you have repeated bouts of bronchitis, see your doctor. You may have a more serious health problem — such as asthma, chronic bronchitis or emphysema — that needs attention.

It could be asthma or bronchitis. If it is bronchitis, go to a doctor. The reason is because infection or inflamation cause scar tissue in the lung. Over time and repeated infections, your lung capacity decreases.

When you are a smoker, you are damaging your lung's ability to heal. This may be why this is all lasting so long.

I DO have asthma and bronchitis definitely will bring on an asthma episode. That means about 6 weeks of antibiotics, and Prednisone and higher doses of inhalers, etc. Get thee to a doctor. (Oh, and quit smoking. It's doing nothing for you.)

If you were accurately diagnosed as a child with asthma, you definitely still have the condition. As you age and your immune system becomes more efficient, certain conditions such as childhood asthma become dormant. You are always going to be succeptible to asthma attacks if precipitated by other illness or condition. If you are short of breath and wheezing, you really MUST see a doctor. This is a condition that can take you out quickly if not taken care of. Also, avoid known irritants such as dust, heavy pollen, and for sure do not smoke or be around cigarette smoking.

You really should go see a doctor, you don't want the bronchitis developing into pneumonia.
