Don't eat or encourage others to buy, posses or sell those animals, because they are protected spices.
In some traditions of some indigenous ethnic groups, still eat them, because it is a tradition from centuries ago. So Laws should recognize that as well. But Laws have to punish all those mercenaries who traffic with protected spices

Yes there is a criminal code for the federal district on state matters there are enlisted the Environmental Crimes in the Article 420 said
An imprisonment penalty ranging from six months to six years and a fine from one thousand to twenty thousand days of minimum wage shall be imposed upon any person who:

III.- Hunts, fishes or captures wild fauna species using means prohibited by the applicable law or threatens the extinction of such species;

IV.- Carries out any activity with commercial purposes wild flora and fauna species considered as endemic, threatened, in danger of extinction, rare or subject to special protection, as well as the products or byproducts

Here in Puerto Rico is forbidden by law to eat sea turtles and sea turtles eggs.

But green iguanas is a new dish here. there is people making gourmet stew aout of them and it is a delicacy. They are called Gallinas de Palo. (Trees Chikens..??!).
