Girl tell your parents!!! Diabetes can be very serious!! And it's best to catch it while you're young or before the situation gets out of hand and you can't control it.

First of all, it's not sugar or carbs that cause the problem. Insulin resistance is what causes type 2 diabetes, and based on your weight, with no sudden weight loss, that's what you would have if in fact you are diabetic. Your being over weight IS an aggravating problem if you have diabetes. It's a myth that sugar or carbs cause diabetes of any kind. It's very doubtful that you would need to be in the hospital unless your blood sugar was extremely high. Most of the time when people are in the hospital it's because they have type 1 diabetes and their blood sugar is very high and needs to be brought in control, plus they need to learn how to give themselves injections. Based on the little information you've given and your symptoms, you probably wouldn't have that type. The best thing to do is tell your parents you're not feeling well and go to the doctor. You should get not just a fasting blood glucose test but a glucose tolerance test. The GTT test is much better at catching early diabetes than a fasting test. Good luck.

You don't say which country you are in. If the UK call NHS direct. I suspect you are from the US, so how about calling your family doctor or local hospital for advice?
Yes, you are right, you can't ignore this one, but if it is caught early enough, all you need to do is manage your diet. Couldn't tell you if you have to go to hospital or not for tests.
You are probably feeling a bit scared too, which can't help.
Why would your parents not believe you as your symptoms will either be proved to be diabetes or something else?
OK, how to broach the subject. How about raising it when helping with the dishes or something like that? Or when watching TV? You could say something like 'I am really worried some symptoms I have. I checked them out on the Web, and it might be diabetes. Do you think I could see the doctor and find out for sure?'
If your mum and dad see you are really worried, worried to the point you have been checking it out on the Net, then I am sure they will take your fears seriously.
One point though - some foodstuffs and supplements can affect the colour of your urine. If you have recently introduced something new to your diet, something you have everyday, this may be the cause.
As some other people have pointed out, not drinking enough water can also affect the colour of your urine.

If you are in the UK, you don't have to ask your parents to see the Doctor. You can make an appointment to see the doctor and go by yourself to find out. The Doctor is forbidden by law to tell your parents anything you don't want them to know. However, it's always best to be honest with them, and let them know what's going on, as if you do have diabetes you will need their support.
Go to whichever parent you feel happier talking to, and tell them your worried because you seem to be so much more thirstier than normal, and that your urine is different than it used to be. Say to them you want to go to the Doc's to get yourself checked out and would they come with you.
Diagnosing Diabetes doesn't necessarily involve a hospital stay. Most patients are diagnosed as outpatients, and the main diagnostic tests are blood tests. Only if they decide to do a glucose tolerance test would you have to go into hospital and that is usually only for a few hours.
Getting yourself stressed out won't do you any favours in the situation and could just make you worse. Talk to your parents. I'm sure they'll understand, and good luck!

Hi, I asume you are young, so tell your parents your fears. It may reassure you to know that diabetes in young people is usually type 1 and the symptom of this is losing weight/being underweight. Type 2 diabetics are usually overweight and older (25+). That considered you still need to be checked over by a doctor or nurse to make sure everything is OK and to put your mind at rest.
If you were diabetic (type 1) you would require at least a few days in hospital to get you stabilised and to learn how to do your injections. If you were one of the rarer young onset type 2 diabetics you would probably receive information from your doctor or nurse and not need to go into hospital.
But PLEASE...get it checked out SOON!!!!

AS far as the hospital stay that depends on how high your Sugar count is. You may not be in the hospital.
You did a fine job telling us, use those same words and tell mom and dad. If they balk ask them to get you a blood glucose test kit.
The cheapest is $35 the most expensive is $100. Test your blood 3 hours after eating and record the results. Wait till the next morning and test again and record those results.
If the blood sugar lvl is between 69 and 99 you are ok. If you are lower than 69 then you are hypoglycemic (Low blood sugar) Higher than 99 your Hyperglycemic (High blood sugar)

Yellow dark urine usually means dehydration (mild) drink more water. The diabetic thirst symptom is essessive thirst. You are too young to be fat. Change it. Unless you have juvenile diabetes which would have been picked up a long time ago, then you may be a candidate for type 2 diabetes. You may be able to turn this around with diet and exercise or stay uncontrolled which eventually leads to blindness and kidney failure. Make an office appointment with your doctor and he or she may do a fasting blood sugar to start. Hospitalization may not be necessary at all. Quit hanging out in forums. You are picking out diseases you don't have. Knock it off and get a life. Enjoy life and get off your a##.

First of all, those symptoms sound like dehydration. I would try to knock out the lesser options before I jumped to a big one like diabetes. You have to tell your parents, If they refuse to do anything, (which would be pretty sorry), then go about other options. Tell them how concerned you are about this, let them know how much that this is bothering you, and definetly tell them about how much sicker you could become if you do have it and it goes untreated! My fiance recently had to get a moving (slowly) car stopped in the highway because the guy had gone into diabetic shock and was swerving everywhere, bring up horror stories like that...it'll get their attention. As far as your stay in the hospital, I wouldn't worry so much about that as I would about getting yourself healthy, in the long run thats the big issue! good luck!

I wouldn't get worried about having diabetes just yet. Dark yellow urine and being a little thirsty may just mean you are not drinking enough water. If you are drinking enough water it should be pale yellow or clear. Two other symptoms that I am aware of are sudden unexplained weight loss and having cuts or scrapes that heal slowly. It is also hereditary so ask if anyone else in your family has it.

You sound like a hypochrondriac!
As others have said.. it sounds more like dehydration then diabetes..
If your urine is dark yellow.. then its NORMAL to feel a little bit more thirsty..
Tell your parents and drag them to the doctors and pay the co-pay and have the claim go to the already out of control insurance companies because you think you're over-weight and you don't drink 64 ounces of water a day....
I tell ya, when your urine starts smelling like MAPLE SYRUP.. then you need to worry.. I'm surprized you didn't pick up on that in the ADA forums.
