How long can I drive my car & what should I do after. Thinking of donating but I need my car till December. Is there a way around it. My renewal is in October06.

If you're saying that the repair bill to make it pass emissions is worth paying, then pay it.

If not, sell it to someone in a county that doesn't have emissions testing. I did that with my RX7 when it would no longer pass due to constant changes in acceptable emissions. I hated getting rid of it after over 150K miles, but it was going to cost about $800 to make it pass.

Usually you can't get a new tag without passing emissions and driving with an invalid tag is likely to cost you more in tickets and court fees.

Do you have a friend in another town that don't possibly require emissions testing? Some smaller towns still don't require this, so maybe they would be nice enough to let you borrow their address and register for your tags in their city?

More information is needed year model mileage and just what codes were in the engine and check engine light was on?

Believe it or not there is funding for people who can not afford to have there cars repaired to pass emisions. Or as the other poster says "drive it"

make sure to put a super unleaded gas, , and 1day b4 test add pure alcohol in your tank , take it to the testing place you will pass, after you clean you carburetor,
