Because the white plastic bags are made in China and the paper bags in India, and they know a bloke who knows this other bloke who gets them really really cheap.

my local Chinese take away puts their stuff in little clear plastic containers in clear plastic bags and the Indian takeaway uses white plastic bags - I think it is just a matter of choice in local supplies, whatever is the cheapest.

That's funny, here it's just the opposite.

Chinese takeout uses brown paper bags, and Indian takeout uses white plactic bags.

Around here that is not the case. most of the places use brown paper bags...keeps the food hot.
