Any other vegetarians craving carbs all the time? I constantly crave oatmeal, bran, air popped pop corn, you know all the healthy carbs which is good. I am getting like 40-50 grams of protein a day and eat plenty of veggies. And I am 5'7" and 110.5 lbs so I don't know why. Is there any vitamin I am missing from my diet?

Yes its because we restrict whole food groups and there for its like when you are on a diet and banning chocolates or stuff u crave food more. Remember follow the food pyramid allow 6-9 serve carbs 2-3 protein 3 & 5 Fruit and veg.

Also make sure you do get moderate amount of good fat if you restrict fat completely you will not be satasfied

You're probably not getting enough carbs. The recommended ratio of carbs, proteins, and fats is 50:35:15. You're supposed to have more carbs than proteins (low glycemic index carbs and high fibre). Popcorn is not a good form of carbs, same with potatoes, but they're okay once in a while. I'd say you're doing pretty good with only craving oatmeal and bran LOL

These balanced portions help you absorb and digest all the nutrients in your foods. Fats are also important. If you eat too much of one thing it messes up your digestive system. It's always a good idea to take a multivitamin everyday just to be safe. Take a look at this website for more info on balancing your meals:

You could be needing iron and be anemic. You are very thin for being 5'7". You might try some iron fortified cereals and use vitamin C as a catalyst for absorbing the iron. The iron in meats, fish and poultry is more readily absorbed in the body. The other vitamin that is often found deficient in a vegetarian diet is B12, so make sure you are getting enough of that. Consult with your physician to make sure you are otherwise healthy. Sometimes craving certain foods is a signal that you are not getting something in your diet.

I am also 5'7" (female) and a healthy 131 lbs (but my sister-in-law says I'm wasting away?). By comparison, you sound pretty thin. I can't see you to tell you if you look underweight. It's good that you are eating healthy carbs. Perhaps you should add some almonds or other snack nuts in order to feel more full. The natural fats should help your nutrition needs all around. Get the nuts bagged from the produce section, not canned in the peanut aisle if you can help it. Those nuts are over processed and heated in ways that change the beneficial oils.

I am in your same situation and my diet consists of too many carbs. I try to cut them out, but I always want them. Wish I knew the answer . . .

I take B complex vitamin every day and it doesn't make a difference.

yea, you are missing meat.

I did the vegetarian thing a couple weeks ago (veggie soup and bread diet); and by the end of it I could have eaten my cat or dog with the protein cravings I had.

I am a very physical worker and I need lot more protein than a vegetarian gets.
