Broccoli is loaded with vitamins and nutrients, lots of vitamin C and a bunch of calcium. If you want to retain as much of the natural goodness as possible, buy a fresh broccoli then then cut it into small florets so it cooks evenly. Wash it in cold water, but do not soak it or you will lose some of the water soluble nutrients. Stream them in a utensil with a basket so that the broccoli does not touch the boiling water. Cook for 3 minutes, in your case try 4 minutes, you should retain most of the beneficial properties and the great taste of this vegetable.

You don't like to have crunch in the broccoli you say, but cooking it any further than that makes it lose much of it's nutritional content. Some people like to go even FURTHER and say cooking it PERIOD makes it lose nutrients and they eat it raw.
You can tell you've overcooked it when the steamer water becomes green (that's nutrients in there, not just chlorophyll). The greener the water is, the more nutrient it contains.
When I accidentally leave the steamer on too long, I make myself drink the steamer water....It won't win any taste contests, but that's the price I pay for overcooking the vegetables. If I'm going to make myself eat a vegetable it better DAMN well have nutrients in it *LOL*

You wouldn't completely cook all the nutrients and vitamins out of broccoli, but you do loose a lot. It is best not to over cook. Alternatively, you can drink the juice after cooking the broccoli and get them back.
