It is a fruit with seeds that grows on a determinate bush like a pepper does (not like a squash or cucumber that grows on a vine). It has a blossom which is fertilized by pollen and which clings to the fruit on the top end until the druit is harvested.. The eggplant fruit itself is the same purple color (for common purple aubergine eggplant) whether it is ripe or just starting. It is the third most common crop worldwide (after potato and tomato) with the bulk of the crop coming from China and India.

It grows from seed, a vine similar to tomato vine grows, small flowers grow, and then the "fruit" eggplant starts to grow where the flowers were on the vine.

It is a plant. It grows from a root but is not a root like a potatoe. It comes up on a bush like squash, okra, tomotoes, etc.
