this is for mormons who live in salt lake city area, are u guys not allowed(parents say ur not allowed or whatever) to become close friends with people who are not Mormon? and why? and why is your religion so hard on bringing other religions down? im just asking this from experience when a mormon was trying to convert me and they shot down my religion pointing out everything wrong, but yet I didnt say anything bad about their religion. im just trying to better understand mormonism.

I doon't exclude anyone as my friend, I'm from a town North of SLC, there are people who do that, unfortunately, but I like to be friends with anyone.

I'm not from Salt Lake but I am a Mormon. We have been told (by the General Church Presidency) that we are to be friendly with people of other faiths. That includes being friends with those of different religions.

If people aren't being your friend because you aren't a member of the mormon religion, realize that this isn't being taught by the church. It is more likely an issue in their families (or an issue with the local culture .... BUT.... I don't know if it's a culture issue since I've never lived in Utah).

edit: I answered because I thought it'd help answer your question -- "and why is your religion so hard on bringing other religions down?". It doesn't look like any Mormons from Salt Lake have answered your question yet. Sorry if my answer has offended you.

I live in the SLC area and have many friends who are not LDS and some who are who are not active. It is often misconceived that we can't have or don't want friends who are not LDS... my reasoning for that is: I rarely want to be around people who cuss, drink alcohol, smoke, mainly do things I do not do. That does not mean I will not be their friend or socialize with them, we are taught to love everyone. But think about it, I don't drink so why would I go hang out with people at a bar? Not very fun.
Also, I have never heard anyone in my religion bring others down yet am constantly being riduculed and scorned for believing "false doctrine" by so-called Christians. I believe most Christian religions have bits and pieces of the gospel, just not the fullness as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

All religions shoot down other religions than their own. And no religion points out the bad about there own. Half my family are mormons(some in salt lake city) and they don't love me any less for not being mormon. Nor are they asked to love me any less by their Church.

Well that is foolish.
They don't come to your door very often.
Why don't you know how to defend your view.
Just say no thank you and close the door.
Hey point this out there are fairies and Angels but religion is really a joke for fools, to part their money, plain ansd simple.
