I'm decorating a cake and will have Dead playing in the background. This is a celebration of him adopting my son (his part of the party is Star Wars themed.) I would like some activities for the adults.

Star Wars meets Haight Ashbury
WWJD -what would Jerry do ?
Half of the solutions I could offer you are illegal re: punch and baking additives
Tie dyed decorations
Tie dyed cake frosting- basically you frost a cake in light color and then you draw lines on it using a gel or a stiff cuvee in contrasting colors, take a tooth pick insert into line and pull in an outward direction resulting in a star burst pattern. Obviously that technique has a lot of other possibilities.
lots of incense
get a strobe light
black lights
black light posters- can you still get those ?
colorful mexican fabric to use as wall hangings or curtains-asuming you don't own them already

Break out the "doobs", hire a sitter for the children's party and rock on....no, seriously, why not require that everyone dress up as "hippies", rent a psychedelic "ball", whip up a batch of "magic" mushrooms (just plain stuffed mushrooms), throw pillows all over the floor, get some glow in the dark posters and a black light from your local "head" shop and play pin the mustache on Jerry...Rock on!

I'd say something like trivia about the Dead. Look online for random quotes, snippets of songs, and biographies. Keep track of points and have a little Dead gift for the winner!

(For the record, Bruce Hornsby played with the Dead after Jerry Garcia!)
