I don't know about washer and dryers in India, but my husband and I, we live in the US, bought the new Whirlpool Duets about 4 months ago for $2300, which may seem a bit pricy. But they are they best washer and dryers out there you can buy. They use half the amount of electic, 1/4 amount of soap, 1/3 of bleach and 1/3 of fabric softner and 1/3 of water, which is a big saver. If you can get them, they really are worth the price.

My answer is simple and very down to earth.
Get a Machine that is manual operating. Reason -u can control the cycle timing and what mode you want to run it.
Size go in for a Jumbo - as it will definitely help you in washing bedsheets and Curtains.
Another reason for manual is Now a days with Water shortage if you have automatic you will be waiting forever to run the machine with all you clothes piling up ( in automatic its good if you have continuous water supply - water will fill automatically and all you have to do is put the soap powder and start the cycle , it will finish washing and rinse your clothes etc.) , Advantage of manual you can - after washing the clothes remove the clothes - spin out the soap water - collect the rinsed soap water - put the rinsed soap water back into the machine and use the left over soap water for first wash of curtain & bed sheet , kitchen rags - second wash you can use less soap and water. This way you can Control, save on water , Soap & electricity by simply controling all the stages of the washing.
Once again the sales guy will try his best to sell you the Automatic one ... once you use the manual one and learn the way to control the various steps of washing ... you will never want to buy a automatic
End of the day you are the boss U decide ....

It depends upon Ur need & water connection.
there r basically 2 types,
1) Top Loading - good if u dont have continues water flow facility. Its not that effective in washing. But its a cheap alternative. Cost range 6-12K.
2) Front Loading; Best suited for fully aut operation. But needs continues Water flow. Costs around 10-20k
If u r looking for fully automatic Front loading Washing Machine, Go for IFB, "Senorita" model. Cost 15K approx.
its fully Automatic & Maintenance free. I am using from past 5 yrs, trouble free. easy to use.
