I was trying to impress my family yesterday by cooking perfect Pancakes and then,IT happened
I decided to impress them by my skills at Pancake tossing (no smutty replies) when all of a sudden one of them flew out of the pan and up the Extractor fan.
Well, all hell broke out then,my Nephew turned off the fan and bits of Pancake shot out everywhere as it slowed down, everyone panicked the Dog legged it (and has not been seen since) and the fan has to be replaced and Err -Indoors has banned me from the kitchen, life sure is a ***** sometimes,do you think I should try to cook something else,I am thinking of doing a Stir-Fry next any tips on what to look out for ??

i wouldnt say your a bad cook but very unfortunate with luck. is youve bin framed still around? if so you should have got it on video and bagged yourself 250 pound for all the humour. if you try n do a stir fry mix it with a spoon and not to try and do all the fancy nancy stuff without using a spoon and if you do decide to try and do all the fancy techniques do it away from the fan at least tut tut

Pancakes are very technical every just right and the timings. Start simple an slow ,stir-fry is ok get everything ready first supermarkets usually carry prepped veg an sauces even noodels that you can add last second and check the packaging they usually carry serving suggestions. Trust me its like falling off your bike you gota get back on.

Ok so what? You're not pro but not many people are?!?

Who cares? As long as your food is actually EDIBLE.... whether its been from the fan or not its still edible right?

Next time yoiu impress your family try something you know you can really cook, or something you really like... and something that's edible...

Stir Fires are good-- just keep the toss low and simple.

Practice makes perfect!!!
I'm sure there's other talents people envy about you ;-)

welll.i dont think that u are a bad cook..
since in the incident u told us, it was not the food that was hated but that extra skill of pancake tossing...
so from the next time u are cooking... take this into mind...... try to keep cooking as simple as possible and dont try to impress people with other things, but show ur talent in cooking. ok,,,,

from now-on-wards dont screw up the dishes andpeople around u but try to make and let them have a nice and decent meal....

and one thing.. dont try to go into kitchen for..... say about 1 week... ok..........

Pancakes are not the easiest thing to cook, try something simple like pasta and make a tomato sauce, i.e tin of pureed toms, add some onions/mushrooms/peppers, easy peasy!

You know, they sell really nice ones pre-packed in supermarkets now. They're only £1 for about 10 of them. 30 seconds in the microwave makes them quick, easy and a lot less messy!!! Good on you for trying though, I wouldn't have. Can't cook won't cook! At least you all got a laugh out of it, except the poor dog!

no you are not a bad cook and full marks for trying!! try something easier next time that isn't too technical, like scrambled egg, or egg fried rice, it's best to start with simple dishes and move on. If err inside won't let you in kitchen, you can use mine!!

Good for you for giving it a go! I can't get im indoors to even set foot in the kitchen. Give the stir fry a go. Best advice I can give you is not to do it naked! Ouch!!

Practice makes perfect. All the masters have had plenty of practice. Try tossing a few finished ones before you try again.

You're probably OK as a cook, just avoid dishes that requires you to throw food up in the air,or better still don't show off!!!!!
