Gatwick Express goes to Victoria, not Paddington. If you choose to go to London by train, the Gatwick Express is the most expensive. There are other, cheaper trains from Gatwick Airport to Victoria but they may take a little longer. Some of them make just a couple of stops. At Victoria, take the Underground's District Line (westbound) directly to Hammersmith. Catch a train that's going to Ealing or Richmond, but not Wimbledon.

RAC route finder suggests approx 104 miles from central noorthampton to gatwick south terminal. and just under 2hrs - but there are road works on the motorway and congestion can doulbe that time.
London cover a wide area so difficult to gauge the distance from "london" to gatwick. you need to specify an area in london to travel from.
