For my son's school's homecoming parade, they are having each class dress up in different era's. His class picked the 'dirty thrities'. It's also going to be his birthday.

Have him be a bum, or a homeless person, not to put homeless people down, but there were alot of people out of work in the thirties. They also rode the rails. Put some soot on his face, find some old clothes of his dad's, tie up his belongings in a red bandana and put them on a stick he carries over his shoulder! Find an old bowler hat with a hole in it and give him a five-o'clock shadow and there you go. He will be cute as a a bug in a rug!!

The term 'dirty thirties' throws me a bit - - - are they thinking Dust Bowl and The Great Depression? If so then a hobo would be a natural, not certain if the term 'Oakie' is politically correct but Henry Fonda's character from 'Grapes of Wrath' would fit the bill. However being a 'kid' a hobo or any down and outer might not be cool - - - would the school appreciate him being a gangster? Maybe not. Hey he is of school age - - - why not do FDR // Franklin Delano Roosevelt - - - President from 1932 on through the end of the thirties? A pair of 'Franklin' spectacles with the sides removed, perched on the bridge of his nose - - - slick the hair back, talk in a nasal New Yolk accent - - - would the school let him get away with a cigarette holder? Well that is it for now - - - -oh, one last one - - - - maybe you are a DiCaprio fan, that is excuse enough to go for The Aviator either as a direct homage to Howard Hughes or simply as a Barn Stormer Pilot, that might appeal to him plus a good excuse to get him a brown leather jacket and an aviators hood & goggles plus a white silk scarf.

Peace.

Peace...

A hobo is good. How about a farmer? Overalls, straw hat, pitch fork, bandana. Or Alphalfa from Little Rascals. They love to wear hair gel. Happy Birthday!
