Both types of families exist in all countries. However, I believe that patriarchal governments would immediately destroy by force any matriarchal government that it choose. Judging by what women SAY, they would try to reason things out, as bombs would be dropping on them. All countries would have to be matriarchal for a worldwide system like that to work, and even one patriarchal society could overtake them all, just with sheer violence. PS the Amazons are a myth, and if they did exist what benefits would there be from what we have now.

I would much rather see a balance between the two. I don't think exclusively choosing either is healthy for mankind in general. I feel that patriarchy is more linear in thought so it can be more direct but often it is narrow minded. And I think that matriarchy is more open but sometimes lacks the drive to follow through on everything. There needs to be balance for both openness and to bring things to completion.

As to my own personal thoughts - God is Father, no mother. Jesus called Him Father, Abba. Jesus was a man, not a woman and He had men mostly as followers, as we know of. Man, Adam, was created first. Males are more dominant, they use logic versus emotion in decision making. They have always be the provider for the family. They did the killling to feed the family because they were stronger than women. Plus women were fragile while pregant, the only one to become pregnant thus needed to be guarded. They nursed the children and bonded with the children more. Women are a very important part of the family indeed. They hold the family together and nurture the children and make most the decisions as far as the children go. I see this as important because the children are to carry on the family name and genes. Women are softer and children bond to that. I see nothing wrong in having the man be the dominant one and the woman being the submissive. I don't see being submissive as being a slave to her husband. More to being quiet in public but at home to have equal say. I see marriage as a 50/50 but each spouse has their own roles.
With men having always been the leaders and Jesus choosing men to be His apostles and being head of His church, as with St. Peter, it's good that we have a partiarch. Men do the outside talking yet women have equal voice within. Many couples and organizations have a more dominant woman within them but I think the man has a stronger voice, stronger words. They speak without much emotion yet their thoughts can be of emotion. Within the church I'd rather listen to a man than a woman. It's been the women that have been trying to change things. They want the word 'man' omitted from prayers and replaced by "all" or "people". The original prayers aren't something we have the right to change, especially the Our Father given to us directly from Jesus. The word "man' and "mankind" means "humankind" and when I hear women changing this I feel like they are criticizing my intelligence. The Bible is God's word. HE refers to all human beings as 'mankind'. Why? Maybe because He is Father. This is something to ask Him. But as a Catholic woman, I am in strong favor of a patriarchy. I see myself as an equal and have great strength in all aspects of my family. I like being behind my man and helping him carry things out. I feel my role is a very strong one and I don't feel the need to outside people to see and hear me all the time. I am treated as an equal but I do my part in a quiet way.

It is said that mEn anD women take turns being in power on
our world. At one time, men worshipped women, because life
was difficult and women bore the children.
Last time women were in power, there were those who were
noble and treated men with dignity. The majority of women
could have cared less about men, just like today. And then there
was the Amazon Society. They killed the male children and
only kept enough for breeders and slaves.
Many of the struggles we go through today are karmic. Due to
things in the past. But we make decisions in the Here and Now
as well. The purpose of being in power after all, is to learn to
use it wisely.

Both are illusions. Balance requires both aspects in equal measure.
It works best this way.
