Perhaps now would be a good time to re-introduce War Bonds. I know that they were sold during WWII to help fund the war against the Axis, and perhaps we could sell them now to help fund the War on Terror. What are other options? Pre-mature withdrawl from Iraq and Afganistan? Re-instating tax upon the most financially secure Americans? We cannot leave Iraq or Afganistan, at this point, so those are not real options. I doubt that W. would give up the tax cut he has worked so hard for. Why not start selling something like the War Bonds so that those financially prosperous Americans who no longer are required to contribute as much may now voluntarily contribute to the War on Terror. What do you all think about this?

I agree with an above user. I don't think anyone would buy them.

All we care about is ourselves anymore. We're not in the fifties, where everyone watched out for each other. Plus, while Americans are making more than ever, our personal debt is greater. Any money people could spend on war bonds could also go to pay off the credit card bills...

Or to buy that shiny new iPod, for those who are well to do.

Well lets see, we've tossed 500 billion in the crapper of our grand kids money God forbid we should pay for it, rather lets take for ourselves a tax break.
I think the idea should be discussed but Bush isn't interested, don't forget he the guy who fired someone who had the audacity to suggest it might cost 100 billion.

O and of course there's the cost of taking care of the guys that have just been shot up, based on gulf war cost est. at 500 billion
And there's the 500 billion or so to rehab all the equipment shot up or to be given to Iraq.
and on and on.

Do we have that many "financially prosperous Americans"?

Sorry to be so negative but the cost of this boon doggle is a little much.
Not to mention the 2700+ kids that have been killed there.

Re-introducing war bonds is not a guarantee that the financially prosperous Americans will buy them.

I keep hearing that this is a war for oil. If we occupy territory shouldn't we be able to take war spoils from it? Free gas for us yeah.

ridiculous. this is not "war on terror" because he calls it "global". so far, all I've seen is people increasingly hating America. This is not OUR war, it's a war HE made. The budget woes would best be solved by getting the hell out of Iraq.

Libs didn't buy them during WWII. I suggest we use the money to export them to North Korea, than we could kill their precious social programs that cost more than the war.
