Take a glass of water when you are thirsty, it is wonderful feeling while drinking it. If you are thirsty then jump in to a deep river and you do not know swimming, it is a hell to you.
So the nature is not cruel, the situation makes it cruel. Our bad luck will be cruel. The nature go on doing what it should do.

nature is very cruel and its a survival of the fittest type enviroment, a bit like us humans really,
the only difference i can think of is that humans kill for no reason ,and animals normally only kill for survival

nature is karma working in it's purist form... with this in mind, nothing is cruel, because there are reasons for everything, and all those reasons are good.
