The hcg should be negative by six weeks after delivery. A persistent elevation can occur in certain placental tumors, and certain ovarian tumors. The most common cause (far and away) is a new pregnancy.

Really depends on the women, some faster like weeks, some a lot slower like a year. Most women has it gone 6-8 weeks.

i have been asking this question myself i gave birth 12 weeks ago and no period yet. my dovtor told me not to test for atleast 1 more month due to just recently giving birth it will come out positive even if i am not. but others have told me between 6-8 weeks is sufficiant.
