Rebamipide, an amino acid analog of 2(1H)-quinolinone, is used for mucosal protection, healing of gastroduodenal ulcers, and treatment of gastritis. It works by enhancing mucosal defense, scavenging free radicals, and temporarily activating genes encoding cyclooxygenase-2.
It has also been used for the treatment of Behçet's disease.

Its side effects are mainly related to the gastrointestinal tract and include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It may cause generalised myalgia. The main risk associated with aminocaproic acid is the increased risk for thrombosis because of the inhibition of fibrinolysis.
