As far as I know, the Quran acknowledges witchcraft explicitly in some of its verses... but it denounces the whole practice... there are many "hadiths" or sayings of prophet Mohammed that discourages people from doing anything remotely related to witchcraft, because of the harm it might cause to people....

There is some good in it but mostly evil. There are verses in the Qur'an that offer protection from witchcraft, for example, the last two chapters of the Qur'an were specifically revealed to relieve the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) of a spell cast by a witch. Witchcraft is harnessing the power of the jinn - an unseen intelligent race which also posses freewill and are made of a smokeless heat-less flame. The Qur'an also mentions the story of when Moses was challenged by Pharaoh's sorcerers... you know this story, right?

This sura asks for protection from various evils, such as the dark of the night, or the "envies" of the "envious". In verse 4, "those who blow on knots" refers to would-be witches. According to Abdallah Yusuf Ali, in the time of Muhammad, some "women of a tribe would try to cast spells on enemies by tying a knot in rope and reciting spells and blowing on them". The "evil of the envious when he envies" is taken by some to allude to the Evil Eye, although it can equally well be taken literally.
Al-Falaq and Surat al-Nas are together termed the mu'awwidhatayn, or 'Suras of Refuge'; they deal with roughly the same theme and form a natural pair. There is a Sunnah, or tradition of Muhammad, of reading it over the sick or before sleeping.

In Islam it's a sin to take part in magic or to use the help of Jins (genies) because you are associating partners with God (one of the biggest sins in Islam).
