........however, because of it's high profile it is masking the fact that hundreds of thousands of immigrants from other continents are arriving.
Many of the immigrants from the new EU states are here to work (though I suspect many have come for a better way of life too), and will eventually go home. However there are two sources of immigration that should be a key concern for the British people.

1/ The number of migrants from Africa has soared
2/ Migrants from the middle eat are also arriving in huge numbers (I would urge you to treat ONS figures with extreme scepticism, I work for the statistical division of the government and have projected figures to hand).

Two problems here. The first is that people given permission to stay in the UK usually invite their extended families to join them, 1 person from India can soon equal 30.
The jobs taken formerly by these migrants are now taken by the EU arrivals due to their reputation as hard workers.

...ran out of room.

The problem therefore is that many of the jobs that need filling are being filled by EU migrants, but beyond this there continues to be an increasing flood of other immigrants (both legal and illegal), that is being ignored.
We need to consider the very great impact on the social wellbeing of the UK. Claims from then liberal left that people opposed to mass immigration greatly inflate the figures are false, the evidence is plain to see in the highstreet.

This is NOT panic-mongering. The numbers are a real cause for concern for a number of reasons. Demand on public service, break down of social cohesions, accomodation, introduction of diseases.
Immigration is not a bad thing, mass immigration is.

As a couple of people have rightly pointed out, I'm not really answering a question, just trying to open a debate.

I agree. While immigration is necessary to bolster our workforce and in turn support the future of our public services and pension capability this could and should be done solely from the EU. There is nothing racist about this as within the EU you have people of all ethnic backgrounds. Obviously there would be exception in the case of the highly skilled (i.e. doctors, dentists etc.). I cannot understand on what basis people from outside the EU are being allowed to settle here. We have recently returned people to Zimbabwe and Iraq as these countries are now deemed relatively safe.
But what of other economic immigrants who have actually come from safe countries? Why have they been allowed not only to stay but to bring their extended families.

Living in Switzerland I am happy to see strict new immigration laws. Ten years ago when Switzerland opened it's boarders Europe all bitched about it, then followed suit a few years later. Now we have stricter rules, EU bitches again, I bet anyone in the next 10 years all the EU countries will start to enforce the same measures. There is only so many spaces available but the number continue to grow, Polish people have flocked the rest of Europe and they are not even illegal, there isn't much room left.

I have just arrived home from Blackpool after visiting my brother 75% of the staff at the pleasure beach are polish, They are very polite & helpful but what happened to the staff that were there last year. In about five years the government might do something about it but that will not help the people who have lost there jobs. Yes this is a very serious problem & needs looking into before its to late.

I am from Liverpool and my God the whole city is full of non- Brits..........Native British are most definately the minority at the moment.... In Liverpool, the schools are full of migrants, the hospital waiting rooms, doctors surgerys, DSS offices.....Not only that the supermarkets like Asda are now opening tills that are only for foreigners and selling Halal foods they are also being asked to put Halal stickers on all food stuffs that are Halal.
Certain areas of the city are now flooded with all different nationalities although those of Muslim faith seem to be dominant....

Immigration is good for the economy; we need a flexible labour market.

East Europeans are mostly decent hard-working people and I look forward to seeing more of them coming to Britain and settling here.

The expansion of the EU is good news for Britain.

Presumably you are governed by the official secrets act.

Maybe it would be best if ypu were not spouting these kind of statistics on a public forum.

I wish people would stop this panic mongering.
When people find out that the streets are not paved with gold they go home again, or move to somewhere else.
An influx of people of different colours is only a problem if you are a racist.
Otherwise it can only be of advantage to the gene pool.
