My dad thought it would give them some fresh air. But would it be too cold for them? My last bidgie died and we are not sure whether it was coz it was too cold for him outside. I am scared this budgie will die coz it is too cold for him. Any advice?

I personally would never let my parrot nor my budgies be outside all night. Our nights get way cold, and wind is a killer. Colds and birds do not mix.
If outside do you have a nesting box or some other shelter for them? Some parts of the world they are outside all the time, they are wild somewhere in this world. Just not in our cold climate.

I would not leave the birds outside. If the cold doesn't get them, the hot air or contaminated air will. If you want them to have so called fresh air, just open some of your house or apartment windows for an hour or so. Keep the birds inside and in their cage, and don't put them next to the open window. Let the air filter through the house indirectly from other rooms. Also don't subject them to tobacco smoke. It'll kill them eventually. One of my nieces had a bird and threw a party not realizing that many of her guests were smokers. The smoke was thick enough to bring tears to your eyes. The next morning she found the bird dead in the bottom of its cage.

As for your dad. If he thinks being outside is so great, ask him to stay outside all day and ovenight to see how much he likes it. I think he'll change his mind pretty quickly.

Remember that your birds are dependent on you for their lives and they don't have a way of letting you know if what you are doing is killing them. Treat them with the same care and love you would give your own babies.

PS: I wouldn't want to be a bird in a cage. Well, not if your dad was in charge of my welfare anyway.

I wouldn't leave the birds out side. Budgies don't like breezes or winds (I'm not sure about cockatiel). Were I live it gets to cold at night for them.

Too cold at night right now unless you live in a tropical area.. Can also get too hot during day of not kept in shade - also water is usually in small containers for birds and there's the possibility of them running out of water during the day. I used to take my birds out during the day, but only when I was home for just a few hours.

No definitely not. I sat my cockatiel (in his cage) out on my balcony while I vacuumed and within minutes these big crows were scaring him and jumping on his cage. I very quickly brought my cockatiel inside. I've heard stories of bigger birds surrounding the cage and the poor little bird inside goes from side to side to get away from the bigger birds and is continually pecked to death. I hope you give them fresh air by actually letting them out of their cage for a fly every day. Within the house (or a bedroom) of course. Don't keep them caged all day every day.

Do not leave them outside, that is not a good thing for them and yes they will get sick and could die. You can take them out side with a harness so they can get some fresh air, but do not leave them outside over night, not only will they get cold and could die but wild animals could get to them and kill them.

My friends have a parakeet and they keep it outside all of the time, but we will in east texas. I personally don't put my son's cockatiels outside. They are use to being inside. I will open the window in his room for a while so they can have fresh air.

Do NOT under any circumstances put your bird outside. Not only will it be too cold, but there are a lot of preditory animals out there that can get to your bird.

Not knowing where you live I say yes its too cold for your bird to be out side. Exception would be Amazon forest or the like.
