You CAN start a child in pre-school as young as 2.5. Standard kindergarten age is 5 by September. However, some children simply aren't ready for the environment at that age. My son is 4, and last year we tried to put him in a Montessori school, where he had a lot of problems. He wouldn't pay attention, was literally climbing the walls while the teacher was talking, etc. She couldn't teach him anything because he just wouldn't pay attention. The teacher pushed for us to put him on ADHD medication, and when I went to the doctor to have him assessed, the doctor said there was nothing wrong with him other than the fact that he wasn't mature enough for the environment, and to wait another year for him to go. Since then, I've been keeping him at home with me and putting him in playgroups to have social interaction. I teach him new things every day and he's been doing absolutely great. If you have no other options, go ahead and put your child in school, but be aware that some kids aren't ready at that age and also that being in a full day program can be rough on small kids. It all depends on your child and their maturity level. After my experience I don't believe younger is necessarily better.

Hi. I agree with Sissy's first sentence. As soon as your child starts understand things, is a great time.
We started reading to our child when he was 10 months old. He's now 3 ( and 2 months) old, and he know recognizes so many words that he can basically "read" the book "Green Eggs and Ham" or even "The eye book", both by Dr. Seuss. Our kid is not in preschool yet, and we will keep him home until he turns 4. Anyways, teach as much as you can at home, and if possible put your child in day care as soon as you feel that he's ready. Each child is different, always remember that.
Good luck and happy parenting!

Definitely start schooling (teaching) your child different things like shapes, letters, and numbers whenever they can comprehend. But I would recommend not starting preschool until 4 (one year before kindergarten) if you start them too early, they could easily get burnt out, and be bored by the time they are 5 or 6. Now days, kids have to go to college to be anything in life, and with 12 + years in regular school, I wouldn't push the first few years of their lives.....

I started teaching all my girls at the age of 2. Just very basic and simple stuff. Then as they got older and understood more, I slowly gave them harder stuff to learn. There are alot of wonderful workbooks and websites that offer materials for different age groups. I now have three in school ( all A students) and my youngest who is 4 is already doing first grade work. Good luck.

i imagine the present uk gadget works nice. 4 isn't too youthful for my section to start up going to college... I mean, almost all of them delight in it. also, youthful toddlers are going to ought to flow from being the eldest in college to the youngest in intense college in some unspecified time sooner or later, so i do not somewhat see how replacing the age to 13 can help you. also, if a first college went from toddlers age 4 to 13, then there will be to vast of an age decision interior college. in a lot of eu international places, inspite of the reality that the age to start up formal education would no longer be till 6 or 7, almost all of youthful toddlers flow to one of those toddler college from the age of four, so in reality start up their practise at 4, like in this us of a. you've raised some sturdy factors although.
