Yes, I think the word OBEY is too much, and it is often left out of the vows these days. A man and wife should be EQUALS, neither the husband nor the wife has the right to boss the other one around.

Unfortunately some women take this as license that their husband has to obey them, which I don't agree with either!

It really amazes me how simple minded a lot of the answers are. If you have a problem with the words, sure you can take them out, but remember you are making a contract. If you don't have to obey him, then he doesn't have to obey you. It is sad how feminism has turned so many women so B*tchy. In the old days men used to do whatever women wanted. Now you all have this ridiculous idea that men oppressed women and the world is better off without men. hogwash. I love watching how older women can get men to do whatever they want because they know a simple secret that you can get more flies with honey than with vinegar. If you are rude and nasty to your husband don't expect sweetness in return. You shall reap what you sow.

Also if you are already having problems with the wording f the vows, I think there are some underlying issues you are now looking at.

I certainly will not vow to obey my husband. In our society I think it's generally outdated anyways. If you don't want it in your vows than you should leave it out. I know I will.
Congratulations! Good Luck!

i see no prob with it. There are some things that you dont need to obey your husband on. Like what if he wanted you to make a porn or have sex for money because he was broke. I think it makes the statement that you wont always put up with what he may throw at you. So GOOD for you!!!

No I don't think it's too much.

You can't take everything literally. You have to relate it to modern society. For me that means take his thoughts into concideration.

"Obey" doesn't make you a dog for him to shove around.

Isn't there something beautiful about saying the same exact vows that other couples have said for ages?

Woof woof. Oops I mean yes, it should be taken out. I got married 25 years ago and we took it out then. Thank God we did. He was an ****hole. Obey in marriage vows is so dinosaurish.

when my husband and i got married we had a preacher who was really funny and witty and he refused to use the word OBEY!, i think its great that in this modern day and age you can do that, leave out the parts that dont make much sense i dont obey my husband i love my husband....

To me marriage is about mutual respect, so obey is an outdated word.

Of course. In a feminist dominated society, they should ban those words.

I think it's great when women turn into men, and men turn into women.

The French used to say..."Vive la difference" (Long live the difference). They don't say that anymore.
