All of my friends, that I have known for a little over a year, are Christians too and they say it is wrong to be attracted to your own gender.

One of them even says he used be attracted to guys, but was able to change, but I have tried to stop being attracted to guys since a month before my sixteenth birthday (I am almost seventeen now), but I cannot seem to! Is that because I am a bad Christian?

There is nothing wrong with being gay. You may want to seek out a church that is more accepting so you don't have a guilt complex. The Unitarians are very friendly.

I personally think the bible is very clear that we are not supposed to have sex with our own gender. I also completely beleive that God still loves those that do, Gods love is unconditional, I think He hates sin but loves those that sin and he wants to help those that do (which is all of us in one way or another). I also think Gods rules are not because He is a big mean God but because the things he tells us not to do will actually destroy us eventually and He wants us to have life not death. You are really young and I have noticed that most young people seem to question their sexual orientation. talk to God, He is your father and your friend and He wants to talk to you, He will help you if you let Him, go to Him with how you feel, be honest, God knows what you think anyway so there is no point hiding from Him. also know that temptation is not a sin, if you do decide that you don't want to be attracted to guys then feeling that attraction is not an actual sin, it's acting on or entertaining it that crosses the line. ultimatly you will be the one who will stand before God for your own life so make a decision based on what you think is right and remember no matter what happens or where you end up in life all you ever have to do is talk to God and He will be there for you, He loves you no matter what and He wants life for you.

You are not a bad Christian. Don't beat yourself up for being the way God made you!

All that is required for you to be a Christian is for you to accept that Jesus died on the cross for your sins.

There are plenty of Gay Christians out there. They have even set up a few churches of their own. I suggest you try to find them, rather than feel bad and guilty about who you are.

Remember the Bible was written by PEOPLE, not by God, at a time when quite a lot of things were complete taboo that aren't that big a deal now!

No, you are not a bad Christian. Christianity is about teaching people to be good people who love their neighbours and do no one harm. You can be a gay man and a good Christian who love other people and selflessly contribute yourself to make the world a better place. However, a lot of people in the Christian church are not very tolerant to gay people and think homosexuality is wrong. There are churches which are more accepting to gay people and you could find out about these yourself. At your age, you might still not be completely sure about your sexuality. It is an area that you will need to explore in the next few years. I think being gay doesn't make you a bad Christian or a bad follower of any faith, if you have respect for others and are not using them for your own sexual pleasure. A heterosexual person who has no respect for his/her partner is far worse.

well according to the Christian faith you are hell bound. God destroyed the sodomites with hellfire and brimstone.
But since that is a load of nonsense why don't you try thinking for yourself instead of following an antiquated belief system because your friends do. The bible has been largely discredited particularly since the crushing blow dealt by Charles Darwin with the discovery of evolution (and don't be fooled by the religious propaganda to the contrary), which you can see evidence of at the natural history museum.
Homosexuality is a natural part of evolution. It may not function in terms of reproduction but it demonstrates the point that in every population there are genetic mutations making us all different. These mutations ensure that some of us will have the right genetic traits to ensure the survival of the species.

Ok, yes, I guess if you believe that homosexuality means you are a bad Christian than that's what you are. But what that means is that you do not fit into that belief system, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. And I'm not talking about Christianity in general, just that the beliefs that you now hold are fundamentally flawed. Many Christians don't believe that being gay is bad, it is only those that think it is bad that are believing in an outdated creed. Take for example if you lived in the south as an African-American during the 1800s. You wouldn't feel welcome because the people around you have horrible beliefs. Would you stay there? No. If you had the power, you'd leave.

If I were you, I'd take this advice.

Are you a bad christian? Possibly. Are you a bad person? No!
I think you should be re-evaluating your beliefs rather than trying to change your sexuality! If you are gay, then embrace it as who you are! You are a human being first, and a christian second!
If your friends can't accept you for who and what you are, then they're not really your friends.
Don't fight who you are, it will only lead to years of misery and unhappiness. Don't let some out dated, and frankly barbaric religion ruin your life!

You cannot deny yourself. Look inside yourself for the answers, not to god, your parents, the tv. You have the knowledge within yourself. It if it feels right and true, it is. YOU wouldn't lie to yourself but others will. Maybe you should be questioning why you are a Christian.
You are young, don't live a life of regret.
Sheer the wool from your eyes and become aware of yourself and the power that you have.
NEVER CONFORM!

I can tell you if you have given your life to Jesus you are simply a Christian, neither good nor bad, and that's forever. I know the Bible tells us that homosexuality is not God's plan for us, and I have no idea why some people are that way and others aren't, but God loves you whatever you are. I have found a link that I hope will help.

I think the real question here is; Are you Gay or not?

Don't let the hypocritical christians stop you from being who you are. Seek acceptance from those who actually understand what its like to be a little different and not act like sheep.

Goodluck.

All people including Christians are born with a sin nature. It is not worse to be a homosexual than it is to be a fornicator or a adulterer or any of a variety of sins that people commit everyday. As a Christain we are not perfect but forgiven. We believe that we are a work in progress we still live inside our sinful flesh in a sinful world. Now it is our faith that God has saved us and that he is changing us and perfecting us for the world that is to come. God has begun a work in us and through our faith we believe that he will complete that work none of us are literaly saved until we have endured to the end we are presently a future people believeing in faith that we will be perfected and saved by God. Noe if you read Romans chapter 6 you will learn more than I could ever explain in this format about what it means to be saved by faith. We should not give ourselves over to sin and live our lives according to the sin nature as we believe that the man of sin died with Christ on the cross and that we are free to serve God. That does not mean that we will be perfect but that we should not be living according to our flesh but according to our new spirit that we now have to serve God it is the spirit that is in charge of the flesh. I would suggest that you grow in your spirit through the word and prayer and work a personal relationship with God. May God bless you in your new life.
