Hi! I have several freinds who have done interfaith marriages, however I am not sure if this is something very common or is it because we are in NYC the melting pot. I was wondering what is the case across the US? and How do you raise a child with two faith? It must me a monumental task to get this done and I know this because one of my friends is coping with looking for a sunday school and Hebrew school at the same time. (As for me I am Muslim and I am married to a muslim so that is not a problem, there is plenty of inter marriage history on my family tree, but not interfaith). But I am sure many people have done this sucessfully: (Hindus,Christian,Jews, Wiccans, Muslims, etc)

Jews and Christians can have an easy time of it because they have the Old Testament in common... Wiccans and Muslims would have to give up alot to get along.... LOL

Hindi and Buddhist people are pretty easy going and respectful of other faiths so that usually isn't a problem.

The thing that stands out to me about your question though is that you mention the difficulty in raising children... this is a bizarre concept to me -

I was raised agnostic and thought that all other children were too... (meaning I got to choose my religion for myself and was not forced to believe). Wouldn't you let your children choose their own beliefs? It might be a little healthier for them to know that their beliefs are truly theirs. Just an idea...

That was in my previous question which only Got two answers LOL I converted to Islam and I got to choose :)

in my country, interrace religion are more common than interfaith. most of the time, the couple are of same religion. but some cases happen where a muslim wants to marry another non-muslim, and in the islamic law the non-muslim has to convert, so she/he does(convert). after that its the responsibility of the spouse to lead the other spouse in the right path.

i think in an interfaith marriage, one of the spouse will surrender his/her religion and adopt his/her spouses religion. so in that case, the children will follow that 1 faith. but im saying this based on what i know on whats happening here. i mean if u love that other person so much you can accept his/her religion too right?

if u cant, ur just not meant to be together.

I would imagine that interfaith marriages are really common. I know that my husband and I are an interfaith couple. I am technically a Lutheran, don't really believe though, and he is an atheist. Well he wouldn't get baptized so that we could get married in a church, but we got around that. And when it comes to our kids, we aren't going to push a religion on them at all. I don't think that is right, especially since neither him nor I believe in religion. But I imagine there are plenty of couples/families that deal with this everday. Its just one more bump in the road.

ya its quiet common now a days and this is good also, because this leads to a good future to the society and there will not be any variations between people except men and women. Due to this all will be relations in some way and its more secured but not in all case.
