Well, yes it is but there are loads of other symbols that relate to sex.
Why do you think we go on about easter bunnies in spring - its not about their intellectual capabilities.!

I'm 59 years old and I never heard that in my life.
I always thought the maypole was a thing they did to celebrate the coming of spring. A time to plant new food and have something to eat after a long cold winter. Usually people were running short of food by spring and they were relieved to have spring break through.
What now, every flagpole will be considered a big pecker and telephone poles, and tv broadcast towers, and............and........and....................

It is not a disgusting ritual. It is a fertility ritual, sympathetic magic. What do you think the ring that hold the ribbons around the top represents?

Nope . those that are old enough to be permitted to dance aound the May pole already know what its about. and particapate quite willingly on there own.
