I'm looking on the net but can't find anything. I plan to bring items such as oatmeal, beef jerky, granola bars, but don't know if they are allowed.

You don't have to bring your own food unless your traveling to the country part of China but if your going to be in the city they have a lot of American stores there. You can bring snacks if you want to like beef jerky, chips, granola bars just don't bring liquor cause their not allowed as hand carry. HAPPY TRIP !

You are not allowed to bring any food into China, if they stop you at customs, they will confiscate it, so save your money. There are plenty of good restaurants all over China, just come with an open mind and enjoy yourself. I've been working in China for the last 6 years, its a fantastic place.

Why would you Bring your own food? Ive been to China and the food is wonderful. I wouldnt drink the water though. Buy it bottled its cheap. Do you intend to bring a rolling steamer trunk with you everywhere? Thats half the fun of the trip is the food. Im assuming the friend who told you this either got sick on their trip or has never gone.

I dont think it's necessary to take food with you. There are lots of occidental restaurant all around China, you may choose whatever you want. Further more, Chinese food is various and really delicious (Most people recommend!). Why not take this chance to try some local dish?

Have a great tour!

I went to Guilin (might be a province in China) before and they don't allow us to bring in foods. I remember I brought along a pound of cherries which I bought from Hongkong and they asked me to leave it at the airport (what a waste!) I'm not sure really about other types of food, but fruits are definitely not allowed.

Just eat Chinese food there. You're not gona just eat jerkys and dried food there are you? Or you just flying 12 hours and staying there for half a day or something.

I think it may be tricky to transport food over international flights unless its Deriotos or candy bars or something.

The types of foods that you mentioned, if you can't do without them, would be okay to take with you. However, I'm not sure why anyone would travel to China and want to take food with them.
