Friends, family, dieticians, nutritionists, Doctors, web sites, fat clubs, slim clubs, gyms, slim fast, slim slow, South beach, Long beach, Up beach, Down beach, ATKINS...the list is waaaaay looooooooong. Endless in fact, and all of them...every – single – one has something very valuable to contribute and I lost 35lbs AFTER listening to, reading about, trying and failing all of them. The fitness trainer down at my local gym (that I gave up on) applauded me in the park when he saw me a few months later he was doing a personal work out with a girl (he was loud and embarrassing). He came over, open-mouthed, jaw to the floor, and in deep shock he said (Remember Janice from Friends and how she use to say Oh...My...God – well it was just like that). “How..On...Earth...Did...You..do..That"? (It did feel cool though!!!) He wasn’t going to leave it either he wanted an answer...I just said to him “Well it was only me who could ever chose when to put food and drink in to my mouth and only me who to chose ‘what’ food and drink to put in your mouth”. It was just healthy eating and he found it very hard to believe that I did not run miles and miles every day, lift weights or have any kind of intensive fitness regime.
Why did I give up the gym (?) because I was destroying my body, i’d be running on the tred and I would see this fictitious (but oh so real to me) mile-ometer (like you get in a car) glued to my chest and I’d think about the wear and tear on by bones, muscles and joints and though I might get fit it was also nagging at me “yeah but at what cost”? So I just stopped.
I use to say to myself “Don’t eat, you’re not hungry, you don’t need it”...and the next moment I was taking my last swallow – how did I allow that to happen (?) why did I allow that to happen (?) The feeling of guilt afterwards was sooo intense and yet I continued, time after time to do the same thing again. It got to the point where I had to understand, there had to be more to this, how could something that seemed so logical and simple be so hard (?)...So Kaizen went on a mission...
Do you know how much sugar there is in a slice of bread (?) a pint of milk (?) I never realised just how much sugar I was consuming by stealth every day...and I didn’t realise just how addictive sugar is until I tried to cut it out of my diet... (Even now I still have to control the intake and avoid it getting out of control). I also didn’t realise just how much sugar over works sweat glands, effects your skin and skin based ailments and I didn’t realise I was in a constant state of lethargy until I did cut out sugar and became mentally and physically sharper.
To cut a long story short I realised that I was fighting the wrong battle first - will power alone, even coupled with the best applied-logic from the best professionals in the business, was never going to conquer my weight problems. I needed to first establish and conquer another underlying problem that I never knew existed. Sugar. There are many different types and its hold and effect is powerful – very powerful.
I walk every day (30 minute stroll that’s all). I have stomach muscles again, I also have a great V shape to my upper body through ‘light’ weight training (which I did not even attempt until I lost 30lbs) my head is constantly clear and alert, my skin is clear and I never get any kind of excess sweating or skin rashes. I never get itchy after baths, showers and light weight work outs and I have total-guilt-free-eating. Oh and, whilst I can say I have never been a depressive person...we all get low, right (?)...I can say that since I got my sugar intake under control, low periods that we all go through are a total breeze to manage.
In summary, at the centre of all the possible help you could possibly need lies a hidden enemy and unless you tackle him first expect to continue in ever decreasing circles making small gains followed by large set backs which do nothing for your general well being and self esteem.
I sincerely hope this helps. I do know what you are going through. You are most welcome to e-mail me at Kaizen-Kasei@hotmail.com if you need any more help.
The best of luck
Kaizen

A patience, it is a matter of weaks, not days. The fist results come out in about 5-10 weeks (depends on how long you have the fat on you- if you recently got fat- last year- then 5 weeks, otherwise, longer). This works very good: excersize and eat mostly fruits (no figs, less bananas), raw or a little steamed vegetables (no potatoes) and you can add salt, oil or mayonesse), a little less meat (not pork), fish (better sea-fish), eggs, cheese (the white one, and explicitely not the creamy), yogurt, a lot less cereals, and no sugar and flour AT ALL. Drink green tea 3 times a day, use suplements with garcinia cambogia, gamma linolenic acid, gymnema silvestris, omega 3, magnesium >400 mg and chromium >250 mcg. Discipline and persistency are most crucial. Visualise yourself as slim helps in persisting. Measure the inches not just how much you weight every day, write down and make comparisons day by day. This works without xcersize too, but you will gain the same fat again very fast. So excersize, in order to get a lean tissue instead of the fat.
(Ako si Makedonec vo apteki imash Garcin complex (pr. Zegin -195 den.), a vo CaliVita imash citrimax so chromium. Sekade imash magneziumi i omega3)

Oh-ho, yeah I do. :o)
First of all, just because you didn't lose any weight doesn't mean that you didn't lose body fat. Try getting a BMI measurement to see how much body fat that you're using. (Don't use one online, they are unreliable.)
A 'hard training program' may not be a cardio exercise. You may only be building muscle, which is not a bad thing, but you may not be burning as much fat. Make sure that you're doing a balanced work out, including not only muscle work outs, but cardio-vascular workouts. My friend Jess and I went walking 12 miles a week (2 miles out, 2 miles back, three days a week) last year, and I lost a LOT of weight because I watched what I was eating. I didn't necessarily eat LESS, but I ate healthier.
Walking is one of the healthiest exercises that you can do. Running/jogging can seriously hurt your joints, especially if you're overweight. Walk at a brisk pace, take some music to listen to.

Google the idiot proof diet. Not a smear against you, I chose it because I am not willing to count calories and strain my brain to figure out my allowances. This thing allows you to eat five times a day but smaller meals so you never feel hungry. You have to mix up the types of food like cottage cheese or yogurt and melon or fruit cups then sandwich for lunch and chicken plate for dinner but the thing worked. It takes about two weeks before you begin to loose any weight, but the diet was really easy to stick to. You even get to take mini vacations from the diet and enjoy that pizza or ice-cream once in a while. Just don't go crazy with it. One more thing. You have to walk a little. Twenty minutes a day at a steady upbeat pace. Nothing really strenuous.

1) Get a check up. Have thyroid and diabetes checked.
Both of these can keep weight on.
2) cut aspartame, transfats and MSG out of your diet.
Diet soft drinks seem safe but the chemicals seem to set us up for other problems. These all cause weight retention in the midsection. Transfats seem to attract other fats....very bad!
3) never eat less that 4 hours before you go to bed.
We all know this, so try to limit late night snacks to veggies and popcorn.
4) Take a multivitamin everyday so you avoid weird cravings.
5) Drink water....at least 64 ounces a day.
6) limit alcohol....it is pure sugar!

Congrats on the exercising and all. My friend is working on this as well. Weight watchers is helping but it is still hard for her. The first pounds lost are many times water weight and the rest is harder to loose.
I am no expert, but received some advise from a young Chinese lady a few years back. I am not Chinese, but they have some profound things to say. Look at many of them, they live long and usually not overweight.
She said to look at what you eat. To reduce fat, try to limit eating anything that contains fat in it. This I know is hard as it is in many things that taste good to many of us, like chocolate, french fries, etc contain fat.
I do know when I knock off the red meat and the fries and try to stay away from the fast food places my weight starts to go down. Working out some helps even more.
Remember, the old adage (sp?) You are what you eat.
Best of Luck.

Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic index and load. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way we have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.
Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Links page has gov. BMI calculater to find out just how much overweight you are (teens plug in your age to compare to others your age). Get latest info like American Heart Association does not want you to eat more than 6 ounces daily of meat, fish or poultry. Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks by eating fruit in the morning, veggies for lunch and a good dinner with snacks in between. I also walked 20 minutes 3 times a week. Not sure if this will help, but it worked for me.

I know this seems bad...but have you tried pills? Like prescription ones? I was on some and I finally lost 70 pounds. I have kept it off too, by still eating well, and I try to walk thirty minutes a day.

You should be tested ,only by your primary physician. He or she will be able to determine the problem,if any. Just be calm and go in with an open mind. Best of luck.
