What can you tell me about the .17HMR cartridge or the ruger pistol compared to .22Mag? I know it is just a plinking gun but I dearly love the Ruger single six as I had one before in a .22/22mag I'm told the .17 is a more accurate and faster bullet. Just curious if anyone has actual experience with this gun in that caliber.

I got one of the 1st Demo guns from the factory with the Bull Barrel on it. It shoots very flat and FAST up to about 200 then it dies off quick due to the light loads. But its a GREAT gun!!

<>According to the "expert" sitting next to me, Ruger makes a good gun. The .17 is a necked down .22 magnum, and as such is quite a bit faster than the .22 mag. (he is dubious about the "more accurate" part). But, because the slug is smaller, it has less hitting power. His preference given the two 'plinking' guns: Go with a .22 mag.

I have the .17HMR and there is no finer round for small game (up to coyote size) I didn't realize they came in the single six now.. Think I am needing to go shopping soon. The .17HMR is much faster and more accurate than any of the 22 calibers.
