I am looking for the information about a pilot who in 1942 escaped from POW camp in Lamsdorf by using the plane from the airfield in Wierzbie/Weidenguth. His name was Harry Howland and he managed to reach England safely. which organization could have any files on that event in the archives?
thank you for any information.

You could try the RAF prsonnel Management centre at Innsworth (Gloucestershire). They keep files on RAF service personnel there - but they may not keep them as far back as you are requesting.
Worth a try as a good starting point, as they would probably be able to point you in the right direction at least.

The RAF Escaping Society exists.

Some one who escaped in such a dramatic way would surely be on record. Here is the Society's website address:

The Ministry of Defence will have records. There are also Royal Air Force historical groups who may be able to help you track down any existing records. I'd have a crack at the MOD first and go from there.

In addition to contacting the RAF Personnel & Trg Cmd at Innsworth, try contacting the RAF Museum www.rafmuseum.org.uk/

They hold records, log books and if they do not hold relevant stuff, will be able to direct you to the right organisation.
