Your body is addicted to the massive amounts of caffeine and sugar that are in soda pops. Once you decide to give them up you brain fights back with headaches...these are called withdrawals.
Sometimes to quit a soda completely you may need to slow down your intake so you body doesn't have such sever withdrawals symptoms.
I was diagnosed Type II Diabetic and I had to give up Pepsi! I had been drinking Pepsi for over 20 years and I finally decided that August 3rd, 2005 was going to be my last Pepsi and I haven't had one since. That doesn't mean I don't still crave Pepsi...but you get over it!

It is the addiction to the caffeine. It is a caffeine headache. It is a withdrawal from it. It will stop after about a week. The addiction will be gone within 72 hours, however the headache may last another 24 hours.

Caffeine and sugar content of pop gets you dependent or addicted, if you drink pop very regularly over a period of time, like smoking, drinking etc. One of the 'withdrawal' symptoms is headache! To get de-addicted, gradually stop pop drinking, and then give up, with a lot of will power and fierce fighting spirit!

It's the caffeine withdrawal - but don't use it as an excuse to drink more, the caffeine is the problem. The longer you stay away from it the less likely you'll get the headaches. Not everyone gets them however, ppl react to things differently.

Because it is almost an addiction. Caffeine is sometimes a high for your body. Same with drinking coffee. Your body is lacking the extra sugar it is so use to getting that when you stop, your body goes through a withdrawal.
