No. The different dander is what you're allergic to. You could always go with a hairless cat or a Bichon, allergy-free dog. They will still have some, but not as much, dander.

not necessarily, they have different fur types, mites etc. usually the stuff that causes the allergies. Cats cause more allergies than dogs and pregnant women/newborns are told to be kept away from cats more than from dogs. Dogs are an owners responsibility, they can be bathed and groomed at will, cats on the other hand groom themselves and rarely like a bath, so that may be one more reason cats carry more allergic material.

No the pigments in cats skin and fur are completely different. Thus this is why dogs and cats are so different in general. But there coats are very different when it comes to allergies. My man is ok with cats but not dogs..

Um, I'm allergic to dogs that shed, but not ones who don't. I'm allergic to cats, but I still love them too.

People that are allergic to cats are mostly allergic to the cat saliva, not necessarily the cat hair alone.. :]

it's the dust and dander that is in the hair that you are most likely allergic to. each animal is different - just need to "suck it and see" each time
