What's worse, they can't figure out how to click on that little icon that says "Check Spelling"!

I agree. When I read a question that appears to be written by a 4 year old I take offense. Don't waste my time. I enjoy reading legitimate questions and to see if I could add any practical answers. This is not a blog or chat room. The worst part is that this format offers "Check Spelling" on the top right hand corner.

I want everyone to feel free to ask any question they want. There are no stupid questions. There are some who give stupid answers however. My guess is that there are some who see themselves in a question and fell the need to make a wise *** answer to overcome their sense of insecurity.

Folks, this is a great sight for real people with real questions asking real people for possible answers. Fortunately it is open to all. All we ask is that you respect the reader of your question.

OK
1. A lot of people on here are from other countries and don't know the english lanbuage that well.
2. This is an informal setting, I didn't know we were getting graded on our spelling?!
3. A lot of people don't care.
4. You complain about spelling but can't even ask your question right because your grammer is wrong.
5. Studies show even if yuor wrods aer seplled worng, if the last letter and the first letter are in the right place, chances are people know what you are trying to say.

Sadly this trend will get worse. Due to the "no child left behind." act.
I volunteer for a group that helps teens and young adults find jobs. All the kids I deal with are high school graduates or are in collage. What is most frightening is that I would say that 30-40 percent of them can't even spell the name of the city that they live in or do what most would call basic math. The standards that the schools are accepted to perform by keep getting lower and lower. Don't accept this to improve any time in the near future. Until the schools are allowed to fail a student for not doing the work and not attending class we are in for one hell of a shock.

I so agree with you! The bad spelling drives me crazy! I realize that for some people English isn't their first language but there is a spell check button. Wouldn't it be great if the powers that be changed the format so that every message was automatically spell checked before it was posted!

I know what you mean, it's a pet-peeve of mine too. No excuse, especially since there is a spell checker! Maybe it's that there are a lot of younger people on these sites and they just don't care or are too lazy or think it's the way to do it now-a-days. I wish people took more pride in the way they dress, speak and write, to name a few.

I myself attribute it to a severe decline in intellectual standards throughout the world.
I am of the opinion that the vast majority of the perpetrators truly are simple, ignorant shits who cannot spell and rather than wasting time here only to display the fact that they have the intellectual depth of a rock should be getting hooked on phonics.

i spell very well but sometimes you can type fast and mess up. and you really dont feel like spell checking becuz it takes up time. i assume people can read in between the lines and pretty much know what a person is trying to say as a whole.

easy.

we literally live in different worlds and language is a barrier that we can at least try to overcome. which is what i think you should consider.

understand that some people might not be from the english-speaking environment and most of them are trying their darnest to speak/type/write english properly, and we should try and help them instead of discouraging them.

oh ya. by the way, english is my 2nd language.

i checked my spelling, and it's almost perfect. i doubt i've got much grammar mistakes.

Agreed. But it has to do with the informal setting of the internet. People aren't spelling because they can't, but because they're lazy.
