When I am walking my dog (Terrier) outside she barks at bikes, afraid children, and sometimes attempts to bite people for no reason. She is very peaceful inside the house and toward people with whom she is familiar. I do not know why she is barking, how to get her to stop barking, and how to prevent attempted bites. Any suggestions or explanations???

I think a 500,000 volt stun gun should do the trick nicely. Whenever the dog starts to bark, simply place the stun gun anywhere on the dog's body and hit the switch. You might get some yelping the first few times you do this, but the dog will quickly learn (assuming it survives the shock, of course).

Of course, I would never do that to a dog. It is not humane at all. Instead, I have found that a .45 hollow-point works nicely.

She's probably protecting you and herself from the strangers and strange things that she feels are threatening (remember, even children are big to a small dog.)

There are a couple of ways to train a dog to stop barking--you can get a leash with a training "choke" mechanism that tightens a little when you pull on it. This startles the dog and they stop doing whatever it is you don't like (don't like this one personally, but a lot of trainers use them).

Another way is to train her to bark on command (using "speak"). When she has learned that, it is fairly easy to teach her to *stop* on command ("enough!"). Hope that helps.

Watch the "Dog Whisperer" hehe. The dog is walking you when you walk! Dont let it.
Be the leader, keep your dog at your side not in front of you and stop the dog just prior to barking, lunging or anything that you dont like your dog to do. One or two quick tugs up on the leash to distract the dog and put his attention back to you. Dont let your dog pee or poop or bark when he wants to. You say when its okay. okay??
Make your dog know that youre the boss dog.

dont let him out of the house. i dont think you can make your dog stop barking on people especially if he is not used in seeing bikes and all. if you want, make him poop in a place where no bikers pass by.

Dog are pack-animals. You -b the head of the pack. Walk with yr dog, prettyclose by your side, and monitor her/his every move. YOU are, and should be in control of yr dog. First, Mama controlled and now--YOU!
