Very observant! It happens that way everyday. Unless someone makes a completely ignorant remark, at which point everyone will jump on him regardless of religion, the ratings are determined by religion and religion alone.
Give a profound, educated, excellent answer, and state that you are an atheist (as I am) and you will be thumbs downed into oblivion. I have also noticed that the Muslims and Jews are hit with regularity, simply because of their faith.
You will find that the Wiccans, Satanists, Buddhists, Hindu's and everyone else are rated rather fairly. And they also seem to be the most objective in their ratings.
Depending on how many of other religions are here, the Christians can be wiped off the board, or be thumbs upped to ridiculous levels.
Sad but true. If you know the people in the forum, who pals around with who and what religion they are,you can even make a fairly accurate guess as to exactly who is rating each post.
This is not my usual time to be on. I live on the East Coast and don't know many of the people in here now, so the info may not hold true. However, it is certainly true for the hours I normally keep.

In this section, I vote thumbs-down when a questioner or answerer is blasphemous. If they are seeking an answer to a question and do not share my faith, I vote a thumbs-up if it's a good question, a thumbs-down if it's a bad question, or no vote if it's a decent enough question but neither outstanding nor blasphemous.
Also, I vote thumbs-down for opinions that are in all cases incorrect. For example, someone above me here said that "there is NO tolerance here from anyone." That is patently untrue, as I have seen plenty of evidence of tolerance in this section. I believe that spreading untruths is bad practice, and so it gets a thumbs-down from me.
Sometimes I will vote thumbs-down if someone is being self-involved or disingenuously "clever," asking questions for which they are seeking answerers who will agree with them or answerers who will get upset with them. If the questions are not genuine questions--intended to receive answers the asker may not have expected--it tends to get on my nerves...since it defeats the purpose of a Q&A and makes it merely about personalities and such.
Often, I will vote thumbs-up for answers from people who do not share my faith but who have provided thoughtful, intelligent, fair answers to questions.
It is all on a case-by-case basis for me. You won't see any random or indiscriminate thumbs-upping or -downing from this participant.

I normally give thumbs-up not necessarily to people who are "on my side" of the religious trenches, but to people whose point makes sense, who tell me something interesting or new to think about, or who are saying something I'd be saying 'yes' to, if I were there. Also to answers that say about what I was going to say.
And I give thumbs-down to those who alter the truth to fit their opinion, who lie, who insult or who attack with meanness. Even to those who hold my own position about religions, but defend it in an unacceptable way. And also to those whose posts have nothing to do with the question they're "answering" to.
Your question makes an interesting point, so I'm giving it "thumbs-up".

I sometimes vote thumbs down for a question if it's a bad question. Not if the asker doesn't agree with my views, but if it's all in capitals, or if there's no actual question.

I vote a thumbs-down if the question
1. bears falsehood and hatred.
2. discriminates, and insults any group or religion.
3. doesn't make sense.
4. triggers hostility and demands angry answers.

You said""Most of the time its actually someone asking a question to learn information on a religion or culture and there just asking out of curiousity...""
This is NOT quite true.
Most, by far, are JERKS who are asking silly questions just to get a vicarious laugh - or make fun of someone or some group.
A few are trying to show what they think is ahigh IQ - and are doing a very bad job of it.

I give a thumbs down to questions which really aren't questions, just a sarcastic slam against somebody's beliefs.
