My 5 year old girl saw a painting of Jesus (very bloody) carrying his cross a few months ago, at a Family Christian Store. This is not the "Jesus" that our church has shared with her. The Jesus that is shared with her is always teaching, leading, nurturing, and helping. He always looks like he is in total control, which is not what this picure depicts (but we know he is actually in control of everything) I explained to our child that people a long time ago, persucuted Jesus and did this to him. I then called my wife, while I was driving home with our daughter and explained the situation to her. She then stated that we "all" bloody him everyday. She's right. When we do not treat each other with respect, and value each other,....we are bloodying Christ and helping drive those nails in a little deeper. That sucks, until you see that there is a good side to Christ being in our lives everyday.
The good part is that Christ is a part of all of us, even if you do not believe in him. We are looking in the eyes of Christ everyday we look at another human being. We are all children of God, therefore brothers with Christ. That brother (Christ) tests (educates) us everyday, with everyone that surrounds us. I really do not like the word "test" for this though. Christ is trying to get through to our hearts. He is trying to get us to act in a manner that he did, while he was here on earth. Educating and testing are two totally different beasts, I believe we are only seeing education in this realm.
Listen up, Hear what he is saying to you, and act upon it,...the testing will come someday, and if you've been acting upon those callings, you'll be prepared for the testing.

Hi. You are so right! My Mom works in a nursing home and sometimes I get to go with her for a couple of hours till my Dad gets off work. Do you know what a pleasure it is to just sit and talk to the old people. Alot of them have some very interesting stories. The ladies like to have their hair brushed or nails polished. They are very interesting people. Most of them love to have the bible read to them( their eye sight is failing them) so that's what I do mostly. I can't help feed or bathe or give them anything, because I'm too young and it's against the rules. But I do love being there, because I feel like what ever I can do to brighten their day has brightened mine. And yes Christ is very much alive.

Good question. I have found a way to find out if a person in need truly needs help. Works every time. If someone asks you for money ask them what they plan to do with it. They will usually say I need food, or my baby needs diapers, etc. I respond then that yes I want to help. I will take you to get food, or diapers, etc. Sadly what I have almost always found is when I offer to truly help in the manner which they expressed need, the person will refuse the help and move on to the next person. They are not expecting anyone to be truly willing to spend the time it takes. Most will either say get lost or give them a little money to get rid of them. This way if they are truly in need I can help them. Or I may be helping an angel unknown. And if they are not in need I avoid giving them money they will use on alcohol or drugs.

As an atheist, I do what I know is right... sometimes I give someone needing help some money... other times, I give them food. I don't NEED to ask myself what someone else would do because that is irrelevant.
I find it odd that Christians always have to ask themselves what Christ would have done when if they only search their own conscience, they will know the right thing to do. Most often, they are so busy second guessing themselves, they end up doing nothing.

I had this happen several years ago as I was returning home from church one Sunday afternoon. I was exiting the motorway and a man I had never seen before had a sign, if I remember right, Hungry. Please help. As I was sitting at the red light and waiting for my turn, I received an overwhelming feeling that I should help this man out. My brother and I gave him five dollars (not much, but we were teenagers that only earned allowance) and he was so appreciative of that. I never saw that man again and wondered what happened to him. It very well could have been Jesus testing me.

Charlie, you are definitely right....Christ lives today even as he did 2000 years ago. Even though we cannot see him physically like the disciples did, we can feel his presence as we feel God's presence. I believe that helping others is a way to share Christ's love whether it be helping emotionally or physically. Of course one does have to be careful not to let others take advantage of them, but there are ways to determine if the need is real or if someone is just trying to scam you into giving them money for drugs or alcohol, like someone else said....tell them you will take them to get food, shelter, or whatever it is they are saying they need. I know in today's society we are all so very busy and do not have ample time to devote to strangers needing help, but Jesus would've dropped everything to help someone in need, we can take 5-10 minutes out of our day to help someone as well.

Christ live in us all, we just have to stop and listen and feel him in our lives.
Several years ago while converting religions I had this question posed to me. A couple weeks later while on business in Las Vegas I was approached by a panhandler. I told him I had nothing to give. I walked away and completely regretted it. Thinking was that Christ did I even look for Christ in that man. An hour later I was approached by another man. This time I took him into a restaurant and paid for his meal and gave him another $10 in cash. Took some time to talk with him and to let him know that Christ was asking me to reach out to him. He surprised me by talking of Christ and how he makes it through everyday with his help.
Christ lives in all of us.

i can recall i was walking downtown with my wife and a guy asked me for spare change. at the time i had no change or money in my pockets. by the time i got back to my car the same guy reappeared again and said oh i asked you before. i told him i was at my car and i had money inside. i wound up giving him 5 bucks it was all i had. it had to have been christ. i think that in certain situations you have almost a gut feeling about whether or not this is a higher entity in your presence

I try to help anyone I can. But i have learned that I can't help everyone because I'm not God. I will give food and clothes, and money. I gave shelter to a friend though, and found i only enabled her to abuse prescription drugs, by putting up with it. So i had to put a stop to it. I hope she makes it.
Many people have helped me. Total strangers.

It's unlikely that Christ lives today. According to science, people can live to be no more than 120 years old. I don't think anyone can be over 2000 years old...
