How do I get my artwork into a gallery or how do I get an "agent" (do not know the correct terminology for this person's position)?

It is VERY difficult to obtain an agent unless you are SUPREMELY TALENTED and you have already seen your work in print (published in a magazine, etc.). Galleries take ONLY known people for the most part and then only the best of the best. Your best bet would be to have a PROFESSIONAL portfolio printed of your finest works and then start hitting the streets. Fine artists generally translate into starving artists because there is NOT a tremendous call for this. Commercial art would pay more, but even then, the pickings are slim. ANd please don't listen to the ninnies here who tell you to go out and have a showing at a gallery. THese are kids who DON'T know what they are talking about. Believe me, I know this field backwards and forwards and it's VERY, VERY hard to make it therein. Good luck.

The art world is tough. They prefer people who have at least a masters in art from a reputable school. Need to promote yourself in the trade magazines, local clubs, etc.

Galleries are tons of works to select from. Each gallery is different. So, find one that seems to carry works like yours. Hopefully, you already know the other artists or gallery owners from the local art clubs.

This may sound a little/lot "old school", however a man I was dating(10 years ago)whom had no formal training, went to all of the "County" and the "State Fair(s) in California. He entered several catagories[he did "abstract impression" and "black and white" photography]over a 5-year period and eventually won 1st prize in both catagories! Thus, resulting in two "Bay Area" Gallery exhibits. Follow your passion! XOXO Moonpie

You don't get "discovered." You have to market, market, market. Brochures, postcards, do it yourself book printings, shows...stay away from art fairs and other time consuming diversions that dead end your career. Stick to gallery and competition submissions...build your resume with a list of shows and awards. And, reviews. With a nearly unlimited availability of images and image makers, you will need to work hard at being noticed...even if your work is good, with or without formal education.

fine artist... ha ha... (sorry, no offense)

ok, well, you can't just go out there and get discovered. you need to work your way in. art shows are key. knowing the right people is probably the biggest. they can make your career happen... or... not happen. it is all about creativity on how you make it happen.

oh yeah, and a portfolio helps.

I think the best way is to go to any school with FINE ART department and ask anyone who works there .. the staffs and the teachers. they'll definately give you all the information you need. well, you might need to bribe a little?

try to sell your work to a gallery and if they like it they will let you have a show.
