Are there any combat jobs in the navy? Thinking of joining but I dont want to be behind sitting at a desk. I know about EOD and the Seabees just curious what else there is.

To make it clear I don't want to hear the whole YOU DONT WANT TO GO or DON'T JOIN deal. I know all the risk and such and know the next 4 years of my life will be tough when I join. So spare me the criticism.

I am not sure how the Navy defines or classifies jobs, but in the Army there are three types: Combat Arms-where you directly, personally engage the enemy, Combat Support-where you primarily support the Arms jobs and also have a very good chance of directly engaging the enemy, and Combat Service-where you provide a service to assist the Arms and Support jobs and might engage the enemy, but are not likely to. Combat Arms: Infantry, Artillery, Tanks, etc; Combat Support: Military Police, etc; Combat Service: medical, legal, maintenance, food, etc
So, I am going to guess you are referring to Combat Arms type jobs.
Fighter Pilot, SEAL, some sort of gunner (Navy version of artillery, but Navy gets the bigger guns and neat toys like cruise missiles) are about all I can think of. But, the Navy is a bit different in that certain vessels instead of individual jobs are designed to be used to directly engage the enemy. So, just being on a destoyer or cruiser could mean you get to get the enemy's attention in a big way.
Whatever you do, [yep you've heard it before], do it well and keep your nose as clean as possible.

And, from one combat veteran (Army MP and Infantry) to a future combat veteran:
Thank you very much for signing the dotted line and good luck.

Welll there are lots. Right now the spot to be in is Naval Special Warfare & the New Riverine force. The Navy is getting back into the riverine & coastal operations biz. The Navy is needed to patrol the Rivers and stop the arms traffic up the trigris river. The same kind small boat jobs as in Vietnam with the PBR's & Swift boats. Also the bigger ships are in the gulf working with the USCG & Royal Navy to intercept ships and protect oil platforms.

Quickest answer is to join the Marines. You've got to be a high school graduate to qualify. They are a part of the Department of the Navy. Otherwise the SEALS are it (they're elite like the Army Rangers and Special Forces - Green Berets).
I would recommend a different tact, though...why not stay in high school (if you still are) do well and apply for an appointment to the Naval Academy. Not only does the government pay for the education (worth $300,000), you are commissioned as an officer, addressed as "sir" and saluted. You are given real leadership opportunities right off and every dad will want to marry his daughter off to you. The Naval Academy is one of the best colleges in the nation (it ranks with Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc, and West Point - my alma mater). You can also go to flight school and fly jets off of carriers into combat zones, drop your ordinance and be back for cocktails. Think Top Gun!
Once your commitment is up (5 years) every civilian employer will want to hire you. Fortune 500 companies love service academy graduates. Thanks for your patriotism!

The greatest fighting men in the world are Navy Seals. One out of every 100 good men that try for the job, can have the Honor of serving.

You know you wanna be a SEAL. Just be careful not to pick up a permanent injury during Hellweek, and SEAL deployment lasts for months - bad if you've a family.

Chinese sideswiped a US navy fleet during training operations.

If you stay in long enough and if the US stops picking on brown water or no water countries you might just get a chance for combat.

Join the SEALS they are active...

Watch the news. There are plenty of combat jobs, but most are in the marines and the army.
