My grandfather served in the Navy during World War II but he was so scarred by the war he never, EVER talked about it. Is there a way I can find him online, and perhaps see what his rank or role was? He died recently from old age.

1886 - December 31, 1972 (Enlisted) 1903 - December 31, 1972 (Officer)
Full name, Social Security Number, and/ or Service Number (both when available), date of birth and place of birth (city and state), date of released/discharge from Naval service, address where record is to be mailed, signature of member/Next of Kin, and date.

go to your local VA (veterans affairs). usualy close to a military base. you'll need a death certificate and other documentation. I did this with my dad. He also served in the Navy.
