From what I've noticed, there isn't really a "good" site. And anything that might be of any benefit to you will require a fee of some sort. An example would be Yahoo. They had free "personals" for a long time, and now they force a monthly fee. I'm not implying they are good or bad, just that everyone out there wants some $$.
My suggestion would be to "try" chatting with people in your area. Check out profiles of these individuals and see what you can find, if a fee is so much of a problem.
Also, sadly, there are people using this format as a means to meet people.

most of the dating sites are free to join. you have to pay on some of them to be able to contact another subscriber. there are also sites that are owned, operated by and exists for the benefit of women. affairmatch.com is one where you only have to pay if you contact someone. they have a feature where you can send a collect message to another member and then they pay if they are interested. just type dating in your browser and do the research.

Sorry, but a site worthwhile is probably one that you have to pay for. Any person can check out a free website. Think about that. I met my fiance at match.com. It didn't cost much of anything. $30 I think. Worth every single penny, too.

ok, I stumbled on one the other day. okcupid.com, Check it out, kind of like e-harmony combined with yahoo answers, only for match making, & for free. Tell 'em OkCupidMyAss11 sent ya =)
