Why dont we do the same for each other and our fellow humans?

I highly agree with bladedogs. I rescue animals also, but I rescue all sorts no matter what they are. I will help a human being also, but the news is filled with murders, domestics and etc. I do not see this happen except on television, but if i seen anything like this i would have a reaction. It is only human to care for other human beings and try to help unless you are one of those heartless, ruthless people like the one doing the crime.
ANIMALS on the other hand are abused and neglected right in front of whoever and the ones on here that talk about abusing pets are trolls, they do this to get a reaction out of people and get a kick out of pi**ing people off.
I will rescue an animal if i see a person abusing or neglecting it. I have been known to go and take a dog out of a persons yard because it was almost dead and starved. I have also taken dogs straight from the owner i have seen taking ball bats to. I have rescued dogs from people that had a gun pointed at the dogs head. People do not care what they do to animals and do not care who is around when they do it. There would be a big reaction if people made it known they were a murderer, child molester, or etc. But, these people are more discreet on this as people are not animals and it is easier to get by with killing and abusing animals. I have always been told, the people that will do this to animals will do this to people also.

Agreed with the first answer. However you also need to consider this was posted in the "Dogs" section which is FILLED with animal lovers. I LOVE dogs, and I don't just mean love, I mean LOVE! I rescue them, I cry for them when they are hurt, I feel their pain, and believe I have a special connection to them. You may think I'm crazy but some people are this way over saving people. It's my mission in life to make the world a better place for animals and dogs especially. They are my love in life. Now don't think I would sit down and just let somebody beat their wife or torture their children. If I saw someone doing to another person what I've seen done to dogs, I would intervene as well. I wouldn't have the same emotional connection or be shedding tears that night over what I've seen (which I do over my dogs) but I would protect the person just the same. Sorry for rambling, hope I made the point I wanted to make....

Edit: I like what Fae Goddess had to say as well.

because in general people dont tell others about the cruel things they do to other people because they are embarrassed or know they will get in trouble or MAYBE deep inside them they KNOW they are wrong & feel bad about it, where as w an animal many people feel its only an animal and it doesnt matter, when in all reality they would probably trreat a person the same way but they KNOW that is they did they would be punished and/or prosecuted...many people sadly dont consider animals to have rights or feelings for that matter & since they cant get away w hurtin gpeople they hurt animals instead....jsut my thoughts on it, in all reality who knows why people do the things they do, we'll probably never know or understand & honestly if the day evr comes that I DO understand then I hope I die

Seriously.
Recently on the news there was a mountain lion in a tree that a VET said was too sick to save. It had been hunting children when someone chased it into the tree. Under the advise of a VET animal control shot it and killed it (one shot killed it, humanely, it didn't suffer anymore than it already was). All this was reported on the evening news, just as I just told it to you, the next day the news people said there was more outcry over that mountain lion than they have EVER had over ANY other story they have ever done.
Murdered children, and all the other assorted horror we offer each other, didn't bring the hate mail like that sick, dying mountain lion that had been trying to harm CHILDREN.
Another story: this woman video taped herself being mean to a dog at the boarding kennel where she worked (who knows why). Somehow it got on the news, the police had to put her in a safe house and guard her 24/7 because a lynch mob had come to her house and threatened to hang her in her own yard.
They wanted to kill her over slapping a dog around.
Now if we all reacted to threatened and abused children this way, we wouldn't have abused and threatened kids anymore would we? Pisses me off.
No harsh comments, I am an animal lover, I just think our society has some priorities screwed up.

An idiot is an idiot. Most people who abuse wives, kids, or pets don't admit it like this guy did. Animals and kids can't stick up for themselves so someone has to do it.

I feel that grown-ups are on their own, with their decisions about how much crap they want to put up with from another human being. They enjoy whining and gleaning sympathy but won't do anything to change their situation. Why? They like whining and sympathy and dragging their little cross behind them.

Sorry to be so cynical, but this is why I have an animal shelter, not a people shelter. I learned early :-)

Honestly, don't you think we do? I would have the same reaction if it were a child or an elderly person. I think people who love animals have more compassion for ALL living things than your average person. It all boils down to the defenseless. Animals are some of the most defenseless because they can't speak for themselves, and they may trust the people who are abusing them.

Most people jump when an animal/child is mistreated and or molested.
Adults usually have the option to go away, but it is those who are dependent on others that we all have to look after and protect.

Do you think that if somebody came on here and said "I just beat my wife. How do I get her to like me again?" we would just sit here and say nothing?

Another thing is this. Turn the TV on tonight and watch your local news. Do it every night for a week. Count the number of animal abuse stories you see. Then count the number of murders, rapes, sexual abuse, child abuse, spousal abuse, etc stories you see. I bet you notice a difference. It is horribly disgusting and sad, but there is so much 'people abuse' all around us that we are constantly exposed to that we are desensitized to it. We just don't react the same way as we would if it was something novel. Does that make it right or good? Hell no! But that's the way it is. That's why I don't watch the news. I can't stand it. I end up pissed off and ready to hurt someone and I just can't do that every night.

Because animals are defenceless against humans, they have no choice of who their owner will be or what direction their life will take.

People that abuse animals and cowardly and pick on animals because they cant over power anyone else.

If fellow humans didnt look out for animals, they would have no hope, humans have the ability to help themselves.

Because humans have RIGHTS.
There are laws that protect them regardless of what they've done or to who they did it.
Sadly-animals are possessions. And while there are also laws protecting them as well they are few and the penalties are small.
