well the guy in me is screaming you kissed her who the hell cares its just a harmless kiss.
Its most likely awkard because you have feelings for her and her you. I'd talk to her about it see what she thought. look at her body language if she seemed like she likes it do it again.

Umm...that's a hard one I don't think there's much you could say without making it weird and making her feel weird. So go ahead and tell her the truth, ther reason you regret kissing her that is. Now if you regret kissing her because she has bad breath make something up.

Tell her that you think you may have overstepped where you were both ready to go and your sorry. Tell her your gonna take a step back and hope you guys can still be friends. Tell her something like she is really attractive and kissed her before you had thought about how it may change your friendship. Ask her what she thinks and LISTEN.
