I'm on Wellbutrin and have been for 2.5 years now. My sister took it for a while too, neither of us gained weight. Weight gain is a side effect of most psychiatric drugs. Although I'm pretty sure Wellbutrin usually causes appetite surpression.

I don't know what Abilify is, and have never had Wellbutrin, but when I was a teen and took Zoloft for a while, I had the exact opposite of weight gain. My appetite was severely curbed. I'm not sure if it was because the medicine made me feel different or if I suddenly decided to change everything. But I think from my own experience that the people who GAIN weight must have changed a habit or something they're not completely aware of while on the medicine, and they need to keep a food log and exercise more.
I went from size 7/8 to size 3/4.

i gained a lot of weight while on zoloft. The zoloft stopped working so i got put on wellbutrin and effexra and i lost all the weight i gained on the zoloft and them some. Also wellbutrin is also used to quit smoking and my doctor said there wouldn't be weight gain with wellbutrin.

I am unable to take wellbutrin, and I have not taken the other two meds. I have, however, taken several other antidepressants and I have gained weight with each. The biggest weight gain was with Effexor. I have been on antidepressants for 6 years and have gained 10 pounds per year since i have started on average. I have been told that it slows the metabolism down considerably.

I am sorry to report that most all antidepressants cause weight gain. The exact mechanism is unknown. It is fact though. I take enough medicine to kill a horse and my former problem of keeping weight on has turned into keeping weight off. What is the option? It is one of the many side effects that makes me hate my medicine. If I don't take it I cannot function.........Despite what others may think

I didn't. If anything, I lost it. I felt more motivated and had more energy.
