if you are MOS qualified, and they offer you a mission like this, ask what kind of mission is it? like ADSW (active duty special work) or am I getting MOBed to this station to fill-in? cuz there is a different on how much you are entitled to depending on which one they are putting you on, if you are mobilized to fill in for someone, for every one day you are there that means they cannot mobilize you for that many upon release without going through some serious paperwork. for example if you get MOBed and it is away from your family, than you should be eligible for seperation pay, the BAH of your home area. if you are under ADSW, depending on the duration you are eligible to collect TDY per diem, which is at least a few bucks a day extra than you basic pay, and you might get BAH-II.
my advice if you don't have a serious job, or anything serious going on, take it cuz you get to experience army life in a different way, and who doesnt love, Payday Fridays? if you been around you know what that means

Yes Ft. Bragg does mobilizations too, but there is more to do then that. No this doesn't mean you have to go to Iraq. The National Guard has units and personnel on rotation (near Butner Rd.) for diverse tasks. The best thing is to ask your 1SG what your task at Ft. Bragg will be, for what period of time, etc., as no one here can give you a honest answer.

Ft. Bragg is amny things, including a mobilization station. You need to ask your 1SG what this mission would entail: Are you gonna be augmenting an existing Ft Bragg unit and deploying? is it a rear-detatchment assignment? Is it a direct mobilization to Iraq? etc. Ask lots of questions, play dumb, and make a decision. Going to Iraq isn't all bad.

More than likely you are going to train over there with other soldiers. In my experience when I was in the guard, you would be told outright if you were going to Iraq, and you'd be doing all your initial processing right from your home unit.
I wouldn't worry about the Iraq thing though, but I would definately take the experience to train in Ft. Bragg. In the event you ever do go to Iraq, you can never really get enough training.

Well your 1st called you and ASKED you to go on a mission... well obviously it's voluntary... however there is somthing to be careful of... Once you go to Bragg my guess is your going on active duty for some amount of time... Once your on active duty on bragg... even though your 1SG is telling you yoru going to bragg to fill in for someone else who went to Iraq you may not be staying there.... Basically your on active duty there and your national guard unit will no longer be your command... your going to be under the command of whatever unit your going to at Bragg... If that unit gets sent oversees during your duty with them then guess what your going where they go.

Fort Bragg is a deploying installation, yes. You haven't stated what your MOS is though. Chances are you're just filling in for someone who's already in Iraq or en route. Since this is, by your wording, an optional assignment, I'd say best thing for you to do is take it, and collect the per diem allowance and all the other perks of a TDY assignment.
Good luck.

Yes, Ft. Bragg is a MOB station, but that does not mean you will board a plane and end up in Iraq. I am sure if that was the mission, he would have told you. Besides, there are plenty of signs that you are going to the sandbox....
SRP
CIF Issue
Briefings
Etc..........
I wouldnt worry

Bragg has a gazillion units. I know hubby worked with a bunch of the guard - and they didn't deploy - they took over more as rear d than deploy.

It is more than likely a training mission. If you were being deployed, you wouldn't do it from Bragg, you would deploy from your unit's location.

Ask your 1SG what the mission would be, ask him questions, and then make a choice of what you would like to do.
